Annoyed US regulator warns it might knock SpaceX's shiny new Texas tower down

This is not neutral reporting so is somewhat fake news.

Kepler krunch koming: Super space 'scope's fuel tank almost empty

Alowe

I take it we can't go out and give it a refuel? Might be cheaper.

Alowe

Note, the fuel on board is only for manoeuvring and not the overall operation. So, the scope can continue to function indefinitely, it just can't manoeuvre. Maybe the question should be, what is the most interesting part of space to point at before the thrusters die? So we can at least continue to study that area.

It's official – satellite spots water ice at the Moon's chilly poles

I saw this in the news about 5 years ago. Deja vu!

Alowe

It's been official for over ten years. Why is news so old?

For goodness sake, stop the plod using facial recog, London mayor told

Alowe

It's not intrusive if it catches criminals, and if you haven't committed a crime, you shouldn't be worried.

Just imagine if they had been able to find the Putney Pusher. Or would people prefer he attempts more murders, perhaps on them?

Alowe

There's a good chance the Putney Pusher would have been found by now if police used facial recognition.

Cops called after pair enter Canadian home and give it a good clean

Did they make a clean getaway?

F***=off, Google tells its staff: Any mention of nookie now banned from internal files, URLs

Alowe

Had this problem many times. Trying to refer to a bastard sword on AD&D forums is a nightmare. Also when you can't refer to Essex because of the last three letters.

It's moronic and childish and the world we unfortunately live in.

Memo to Microsoft: Windows 10 is broken, and the fixes can't wait

Alowe

Even today I went to open a PDF file and for some reason Windows tried to open it with Edge. I've never used Edge and never want to. I've always used Adobe to view PDF files, so why the change?

Not to mention Windows keeps trying to set Bing as my search provider no matter how many times I try to disable it. It's like a constant fight to keep MS from taking over my computer.

Not to mention the Microsoft update virus that deletes all your files. We need protection from MS now.

Lo and behold, Earth's special chemical cocktail for life seems to be pretty common

Alowe

It's not just the chemical composition but the ratio of water to land, what meteors have hit the planet, how many moons there are, the distance from the sun, the type of sun, the region of the galaxy the solar system is in, the type of core the planet has, what it's mass is and rate of spin, whether the planet wobbles, how stretched it's orbital path around the local sun is, and the distance from the sun etc etc.

Assange fails to make skipped bail arrest warrant vanish

The law is just a trap. It can never be trusted.

Don't panic... but our fragile world is drifting away from the Sun

Alowe

Re: Mr. Einstein and Gravitational Radiation

I'd have thought will all of the millions of tons of material falling on the Earth every day, the increase in mass would balance it out somewhat.

Russia could chop vital undersea web cables, warns Brit military chief

Alowe

Re: Stay calm and lay more cable...

No, they could just send a person down with a laser cutter. Any more smart ideas people want to give away?

Alowe

Keep feeding the terrorists with all the info they need. Why do we in the West keep on blabbing about everything that would do the West damage, inspiring generations of terrorists.

Does this not appear to anyone as being particularly stupid????

RIP the internet. I can go back to paper money and face to face business.

Security co-operation unlikely to change post Brexit, despite threats

Alowe

Re: Veiled threat

Far be it for me to criticise the sensationalist title of the article, and I'm not trying to be pedantic, but wouldn't this title be more honest?

<b>Security co-operation unlikely to change post Brexit, despite veiled threat</b>

The reason I say this is too often I click on an article to find out why the title is what it is, only to find that it has been sensationalised beyond reasonable logic. True news doesn't need to be sensationalised to be heard.

Re: The good things...

I've noticed that those that want Brexit understand what Brexit means (or are at least satisfied with the definition they've accepted) and those that don't want Brexit don't understand what Brexit means.

Perhaps that is why people voted to Remain, because they don't understand what Brexit means.

Alowe

Re: The good things...

Because there's also a string of things we don't want, and we don't want the bad things more that we want the good things.

Alowe

A threat is a statement of intent to do harm if a certain criteria is satisfied.

Where in T May's letter is there a statement of intent to do harm?
