Agile consultant behind UK's disastrous Common Platform Programme steps down

How about the simple idea of cash on delivery or stage payments ?

If a company is so under funded that it can't finance a project itself, then stage payments,if larger firm then nothing until you deliver a tested working system that does what it's meant to in the real world used by the people it's meant to be used by..

Are there any claw back clauses in the gov contracts ?

Fake ruse: USA Today calls the FBI after half of its 15m Facebook Likes turn out to be bogus

tedleaf

And this is why fb claim almost 2 billion accounts but always forget to mention that only half a billion are real and of those only about 250 m are real, active accounts run by real individuals.

Do your own quick survey by asking folk you meet in a bowl day if they have a fb account and if yes,how often they use it.

Fb is almost as big a con as twatter, total bs figures aimed solely at getting huge inflated ipo's from greedy morons hoping to make an easy killing..

Strange how many American super corps like crapple, microshit, fuckbook all seem to have had their start from commiting a criminal act of theft from someone else !!!

and then continue in the same way for the rest of their existence..

Re: @Andy Prough

And of course the idea that French or western banks would refuse a loan to a party that might do something to force the said banks to operate in a more open style for the benefit of all their customers instead of themselves, criminals and a tiny rich elite has nothing to do with the fact that Russia is probably the only ones who would lend her the money ?

Of course if all political parties had to stay within in very strict limits of spending, all had to be fully open about sources of money might help a bit too..

Re: @albaleo

Which should be making people ask the embarrassing question that if the threat level is so high why was a copper in his own in such a sensitive position and why he was not, from what I can learn ,wearing the right equipment, the plod wtc were lucky this time that it wasn't a proper, well organised attack because he was of abdiolutely no use in stopping anybody and it seems to have taken better prepared police a while to react,if it had been a proper attack ,it stood a pretty good chance of succeeding..

These events happen in seconds, for such a supposed sensitive Ares, the police seem to have been caught flat footed,again..

There will one day be a properly organised attack carriers out by experienced, trained individuals,it stands a very high chance of success, specially if there are multiple co-ordinates groups and they use explosive devices during and after attacks, these are only coppers with very limited training, limited firearms use and very few are ex-troops with battle experience,if security is so important why leave it to amateurs, well meaning amatywrs but still amateurs..

Kick the silly cows legs out from under her,sit on her,use the cameras straps etc to hog tie her, phone "real" police and tell them that you have just had to restrain a dangerous, deluded individual who is trying to impersonate a police officer..

I found myself in a very similar situation just after the acpo 2010 clarification letter had been sent to every serving police officer in the country,I was photographing some of our local estate rats breaking into a car when one of its parents saw what I was doing and called the police, the first to arrive was our local plastic wannabe plod who tried to remove my camera from me,having pointed out that I was stood in the same position as when taking photos, which was a public place, the beats were in a public place and that they were commuting a criminal act and that he was not a proper police officer I told him politely to go breed with himself and that if he laid one finger on my camera or myself I would defend myself with force.

Once the real coppers turned up and we had a lengthy "conversation" about the acpo letter and I showed them the snaps if the brats busting into the car, they decided after 90 minutes that I had acted in a perfectly legal manner, when I complained to our loical seniour officer and asked him what would have happened if I had defended myself and restrained the plastic wannabe what would have happened to me ,the answer I got two weeks later was that I would have been perfectly within my rights to have done so,that the plastic wannabe was just a member of the public with no more rights or powers than I or any other member of the public has/had and that although I MAY have faced a charge of common affray,in the circumstances the chances of the cps taking it forward varied t from none to me possibly being chief witness against the wannabe for impersonating a police officer..

The entire event was witnessed by 20+ other estate residents, which was why I refused to enter my own flat when the real plod turned up,I wanted those witness as a check on police officers behaviour and our "conversation",the above took place in south Hertfordshire...

Bugger it all, let's go back to the abacus and bullion as currency,it can't be any more insecure than the mess that so called "experts" have managed to foist on the world..

Re: "three million [licence] enforcement visits were carried out in 2015–16"

But then the figure is probably not counting repeat visits to the same address,we got nine visits from "enforcement" officers who just would not believe that we didn't watch ANY tv,I knew the law far better than they did and rebuilt/Borges a couple of vhs video machines so that not only did they not have working tv signal tuners, but no tuner system at all,I told them to take one away for their tech dept to look at,I got a snotty letter back admiting that there was no need for a licence to operate them as tape only players but that didn't stop them trying still,we got 2 more visits were we let them in to search and examine equipment and read their own letter, the last arsehole "enforcement" test complained because we did open front door in less than 15 seconds, told him to f off and that if they wanted to make any further visits they had better have police officers with them with a proper court warrant, never heard sweet f a from them after that...

The Co-Op Bank's online banking has gone TITSUP*

tedleaf

Anyone daft enough to still have money with cockop banks should expect this more and more often,as cockop have more and more problems getting anyone to work for them,no matter how much they are offered..

Worst bank I have ever had the misfortune to have to use.

Their communications are dreadful,it took direct phone calls from the head of debt recovery to a local branch manager to stop him trying to prosecute me for fraud even after he had been sent three letters from the same head of debt recovery at head office who had proved using their own records that staff at that branch had cocked up,even though they were told by me repeatedly face to face at the time that they were making a mistake and were dealing with the wrong account !!!

So,exactly the same situation as when thousands of claimants don't get their jobseekers payment, but you never, ever see those stories mentioned anywhere, but as soon as it starts to happen to a few well paid folk in aus,who should have contingency savings(impossible and illegal on usa) it's suddenly news..

Heroic stepmum takes one for team, sticks pot pipe up wazoo

tedleaf

Nah,just pointing out that if your going to use green there are very good safety/quality reasons for growing yer own,in 40+ years I have sold less than 32 ounces to other people, usually to meet a totally un-expected Bill, like a council tax bill that the council had cocked up for over a year, had been told on many occasionsbwas wrong, then gave me only 7 days to pay an amended bill that was also wrong,so I needed even more cash than I had put aside to pay said Bill..

Am hoping that UK gov finally sees sense and legalised 6 plants to be grown at home, like many other countries have done, preferably with a system safety check before you can start..

Thousands of how to grow guides online already,I was just pointing out the health and safety reasons for home growing..

tedleaf

So basically no different from all the skanky male street deters who keep their stash next to their sweaty unwashed bollocks..

It's another reason for home growing, you never know were veggies have been or what they are contaminated with + with 40 years experience of home growing I can guarantee that anything I grow is A) much better quality.

B) has been flushed properly with a week's worth of just water through hydroponics before harvest.

C)un-comtaminated with dodgy chemicals to get crap weed to have some kind of effect other than just flavouring a pricey roll up.

D) Soo much cheaper and with all the above advantages..

I've never tried to steal electricity although I have all the knowledge etc to do it properly and safely, but then I'm growing for myself only so can limit myself to a 1.5kw maximum system,2x400w digital drivers and lamps,50w fan for filter,2x7w circulation pumps,1x55w air movement fan,2x50w tank water heaters.

Possibly a few more watts for timers and sensors..

It all adds up to far less than lots of folk us I in a day for washing machines, sound systems, showers etc etc..

I've even managed to do it years ago on a narrow boat in the canal, using to tech we had 20+ years ago, decent quality (BP) solar panels, large battery bank (makes very good, useful ballast for boat) and the most efficient inverter that I could source, with occasional top up of bat bank from a tiny diesel generator once a month, that all worked fine for 3 years, until I moved off canal and into horrible brick homes, yuk,if you cannot move it,I don't like living in it..

Gig economy tech giants are 'free riding' on the welfare state, say MPs

tedleaf

Re: Not just the so-called "gig" economy either...

No,you want a strong and stable gov that helps keep you in your nice position, how many vote for something that will cost themselves money/job security etc etc.

Look at the last ten election,Tory plan was to keep middle class inside by cutting benefits wtc for the poorer folk, and oh look, the middle class voted in huge numbers for something that they knew would badly hurt millions of folk but would keep them their nice cushty lifestyles..

tedleaf

I look forward a few years after brexit to reading on el ref all the complaints from the nicely paid I.t world that they ar3 suddenly suffering the same problems as yank I.t workers as UK gobs carry on with open door policy but allow un- limited entrance to foreign I.t workers who are willing/able to work for much less.

Enjoy being forced to train the Indian etc who will take your nice cushty job right out from under yer bum..then you too can enjoy the priveledge of being what on by those with more clout than you..

I wonder how many Indians etc BT/Openreach will import once they can ?

tedleaf

You mean just like most of the firm's that have been handed contracts for jobs that used to be done by public employees but are now done by profit making firms whom the vast majority of their workers are forced to claim top up benefits like working tax credit etc etc.

You can also add most of the large British retailers like tesco/morissons etc etc who's staff also have to claim benefits..

It has nothing to do with the "gig economy" it's been happening for decades in huge swathes of the lower paid part of the UK economy,it's called screwing your workers,no matter what lip service they pay to legislation that is rarely enforced..

It's one of the main reason for our ridiculous open door immigration policy,it drives down wages at the bottom part of market while allowing middle/upper part to steal more for doing less or bigger all..

Re: I love you Android, but goodbye.

So exactly how long would it have taken you to either back up phone and card or just copy contents of card ?

If it was that vital, you should have been doing copy/back up on regular basis.

I hope you don't run a business,I can see you having huge problems in the future if you do..

tedleaf

Rubbish,if it was fast enough three years ago, then it will still be fast enough today, unless you realy NEED the slight increase then just reset the phone,it will be as fast as when new..

Only works for folk who don't need the latest, pricey shiney toy, which will only be slightly faster than last year's,smartphones are very nearly at the point that pc's have, tiny incremental speed increases,at the price of lots of money..

My very old HTC hd2 was never even meant to be an android phone (winmo 6.5)

My very old one, with pin cpu and not the stupid solder balls connections is still going strong, and if you head over to xdaforum, you can still get and flash Roma built around android n 7.1.1,

It all depends on wether you trust Rom developers the same as you do htc etc, they all have a crap record for updates that ruin devices, where as I have never had a case of a Rom devoper purposely loading a Rom with malware, that I know of,there are still a lot of users/devs for the hd2,so I work on the usual open source idea of many eyes etc to spot problems, the old beastly can do 90% of what the latest devices can, just a bit slower, but then show me a Samsung s8 that will ever run 15+ different id's including window desktops..the closest thi g there has ever been to a true open source device, the HTC hd2 is a legend with good reason..

I had a mate who used to run a vintage motorbike parts etc site,he had a very large wooden workshop in his large garden that he stored parts and worked in and also housed his very old pc (also an ncr) while doing some gardening work one day he asked if I knew much about computers,so I said yes, hardware mostly,he asked if I would mind having a look at the machine in his shed because it was making intermittent squeaking noises,I thought fan or hdd starting to fail, but before I had even got the machine in position to remove side panel I realised what the problem was,he had an active robin's nest inside,it was very large old tower but mostly empty,so nest was on bottom of pc,they using same entrance,a missing blanking plate in back,I took plate off,saw nest and found a pair of tiny robin chicks,we quickly made up a wooden box and transferred nest to box and put pc back in place, with gaffer tape over missing blanker plate, put nest in box,put box on top of pc and left the shed overnight,he checked in morning and robin's were ok,they raised those chicks and used nest box every year after that...

Re: Roight,then --

One that admitted to it..

I know of one office, full of highly skilled, highly paid I.t specialists, and even though I worked on a different part of site, these supposedly highly intelligent, specialist folk seemed to be easily fooled, going by the amount of time and effort others used to have to put in to keep the systems secure from phishing attacks, they seem very susceptible to falling for one's supposedly using their own secure internal email system, but as I pointed out to the fire crew, you could have a crook on the books,or your system is not as secure as you think...

iPhone lawyers literally compare Apples with Pears in trademark war

tedleaf

Ahh,it because apples usual customers are high worth morons who really do have trouble telling the difference between an Apple and a pear...

Apple has a huge legal dept, they have to keep them busy when their not in court arguing that one flat glass fronted oblong with rounded corners is different from all other glass fronted oblongs with rounded corners in courts,so they take on things like this..

I prefer my first argument,Apple buyers are gullible idiots, jobs was a thieving lieing bastard, his company has the same personality faults..

Apple will die before I do,so I will have seen them born, steal billions and then I will watch them collapse, and I will laugh at the suckers holding stock when it tanks..

But the thing about trumpers is the fun of just waiting for them to cock up one way or the other,it's almost as much fun as watching a good known accident blackspot to watch arrogant bad drivers suddenly find out that the tech in modern cars cannot defy the laws of gravity.

With trumpers,it's just when will they get caught with their hand in the till or screw up so badly that even trump cannot save their ragged arises from being dragged across the nice red hot coals..

If America wasn't such an influence on the rest of us poor schmucks it would be entertaining to watch America shoot itself in the head repeatedly, but their cock ups effect us too much..

Looks like trump is working on a 5 year only plan, knowing that America and world will be in such a dire position that he would never get a second term, trump will do for America what Blair did to the UK,gut it,sell it short and then wonder why he is so loathed and laughed at when he flaps his gob hole with more hot air...

America has had it..

Mind you,the way that all leaders in the world seem to be acting like there is no tomorrow and don't seem to pay even lip service to warnings about the future,I'm seriously starting to wonder if they know something their not telling us,like a massive planet killer hitting in the next 50 years !!!

Oh dear, Prime Minister! Nearly 100 Beeb bosses make more than you

tedleaf

The problem would solve itself if all the fools who keep handing over their tv tax money every year stopped doing so,the BBC would then have to rely on money raised by selling its (our) back library of old media, has to be old stuff cos nothing new is worth much.

How about the BBC pays the gov £2b per year for ten years, then they can go for an ipo of the entire Corp, but no tv tax.treat it like everything else public that we thought we owned but don't anymore,I'm sure the Germans/French/murdoch would jump at the chance of buying up more of the UK..

I can think of dozens of solutions to the BBC,Dale at one end of spectrum, firing squads at the other..

Controlled remote access reviews of Optane SSD give qualified yes

tedleaf

Thank you Redstone,I was thinking exactly the same.

The prices for the 16/32 gb are still cheap,I can see a use for these in lots of systems,if they were backwards compatible with older gpu's etc, perhaps in later iterations they can try that..

Me,I'll still stick to 10k hdd's and lots of fast ram, ssd's are fine, but small and pricey, the advantage over 10k drives is obviously less..

It's still the quickest easiest way to speed up a sluggish system, stick in one 10k drive,it makes a huge difference when replacing 5200rpm hdd's on bog standard home/small office machines, which is where the 26/32 gb units should be aimed at..

Not everything is designed for high end power users or servers, there are millions of machine that could have their performance enhanced for a while longer using this kit..

What happens if you use these in an already hybrid system, ssd boot drive and 7500 hdd's ?

Re: Mummy has a few "connections" and has worked them to death..

Then mummy should have kept an eye on what her brat was up to..

Let's find out if anyone in Russia was affected by the twats actions, then the tanks can send him there when they finish with him..

Me,I would have lifetime assert seizure in place, weekly police station visits, tagged and on watch list for life, just to stop the other arrogant young bastards who think a bit of fame looks good on their cv when spying for jobs,it should be almost immpossible for gits like this to support themselves for the rest of their naturals,or a bit of natural justice, let his victims have him for a few hours..

tedleaf

So what's the difference between UK and usa, money talks in both..

Me,I'm a bit old to go th young offenders, but plenty of lads I know have been banged up in local youth nicks, when compared to approved schools/borstals,they are holiday camps, easy,if you keep yer head down, mouth shut and obey uniforms, anything else, expect crap, but that's always been true..

Mummy has a few "connections" and has worked them to death..

Fingers crossed it goes to appeal,he loses and the tanks, pissed off by our allowing this lieing piece of rubbish to delay things get really annoyed and do hand him out a 99 year sentence, preferably on each and every offence..

These white, middle class gits all claim autism or some other un-provable problem and expect to walk away with a slapped wrist they are lazy greedy little gits, they know precisely what they are doing and why..

The old saying of "if you cannot do the time, don't do the crime" comes to mind, but all the time that they get a few months in a young offenders holiday camp then they reckon they can do the time, look at what that lieing piece of crap mudd has just been given..

eBay denies claims it's failing to thwart 'systematic fraud'

tedleaf

Re: Allowing 'gaming' of the system has indirect costs as well

As Amazon UK are finding out, because they refuse to do anything about fraud on Amazon UK,lots of the folk I ask are not re- newing prime and other Amazon subscriptions..

It's the one advantage users have with Amazon that eBay doesn't,Amazon can be badly hurt by lots of folk not paying regular subscriptions.

We got mucked about by Amazon uk,they decided to side with the seller even though every communication showed the seller was in the wrong, well,so far it's probably cost Amazon UK about a grand in sales and we have cancelled, prime, kindle and audible subscriptions, enough folk do the same and Amazon will have to start taking notice, repeat sales through regular prime members must be better than iffy one off sales by repeat fraudsters...

Not the droids you're looking for – worst handsets to resell

tedleaf

And the reason why HTC do so badly is because their devices are not seen as "premium" but they charge premium prices..

Look at eBay price for a ten year old HTC hd2=£120 ish,HTC ten about £300+

The reason why the hd2 is still selling at mugger higher ratio price than anything else HTC have produced in the last ten years is because the hd2 is the last decent device they made that actually sold well,it was THE developers phone for 5 years, nothing else came close and it is still the only mobile that can run just about anything you care to try,up to and including desktop os's like xp(embeded).

HTC have been trying to live off the kudos of the hd2 for the last ten years, they built a couple of nearly good devices, but then charged silly prices, they will either change or go bankrupt in the next two years.

The U will be another sales flop,no matter what reviews say, price will kill it,doesn't matter ifvtgey drop price shortly after, something else shiny will have taken the sales by then..

My thoughts exactly,it's a bloody simple little operation that the software has to do,any half competent coder could do it,possibly not as efficiently but I bet if we ever got a good look at their so called propriety code it's as you say, open source or simple stuff dressed up with loads of crap to look impressive for the bosses and to confuse folk..

Some what related.

We had an engineer borrow a piece of kit to clean off the bottom of his caravan before someone did a bit of welding on its chassis, unfortuanetly what he "borrowed" was a the most powerful brick/stone cleaner in Europe at the time,7000lbs of pressure certainly cleaned the chassis,it also opened up every single little bit of rusty box section and he didn't think it might be a good idea to empty the caravan first.

Lucky for him,he didn't know how to get past the regulator,so he only got 3000psi,at full blast and needle jet it could cut even purple engineering bricks in half in about 10 seconds and yer normal hard red in about 2 seconds,we were not meant to run it over 5000 psi but boys will be boys with new toys so we soon learnt how to reset the regulator.

At 7000psi it was as much as I could do to hold it in place, even holding it like a shotgun and leaning into hard..
