Thanks, boss. The accidental creation of a lights-out data centre – what a fun surprise

Re: Push me

I once had a poster with the Hand of God reaching down out of the clouds & poised to push a big red button. The caption read "I wonder what this button does?"

"Sir. There appears to be a large object in the path of our-"

BOFH: Switch off the building? Great idea, Boss

Re: Non - Conducting Safety!

Saw something not as dramatic at one of my offices a few years back.

A car had driving into the transformer out on the street, knocking it out of action for a few hours. The electrical company guys came out and fixed it, but something wasn't quite right as it blew up a week later. It blew the panel clean across four lanes of road and a grass divider in one go.

BOFH: You might want to sit down for this. Oh, right, you can't. Listen carefully: THIS IS NOT AN IT PROBLEM!

WTF?

I'm fondly remembering the time years ago

when users thought that it was only items that ran on electricity that were under the purview of IT. Monitors, phones, fridges, water coolers etc

Now we're getting requests for chairs, desks, cushions, pretty much anything and everything else under the sun. Just the other day I was asked for tissues.

I remember the BOFH once said George was "Alfred to his and the PFY's Batman"/

Like all good butlers, he gets things done even though you rarely see him and he knows a hell of a lot more about that is going on than you think he does.

BOFH: When was the last time someone said these exact words to you: You are the sunshine of my life?

Re: Dear BOFH

Is it bad that I imagined this song being sung in Dave Listers voice?

Time to join The Canaries!

I recently had a joyflight in a 1942 AT6D Texan

Even during all the aerobatics, it still didn't scare me as much as flying in a Boeing aircraft!

The park is called Woomera Missile Park and has a bunch of missiles and a Gloster Meteor in it.

A few years back, I was on a 24 hour flight

with my family, including my brother who is in the Air Force.

Halfway through the trip, he turned to me and said "I"m afraid of flying!". I asked him how the heck he could be afraid of flying if he joined the Air Force.

He pointed to the roof of the plane and said "I've seen the guys that work on these planes to keep them flying."

Hey, I wrote this neat little program for you guys called the IMAC User Notification Tool

Tony Martin, well known Aussie comedian, once had a job in kerning. He told the story of a company who was producing copies of "My Friend Flicka" and didn't pay enough attention to the kerning.

We had an employee by the name of Craig Hunt. Our employee email addresses are first initial last name at company.

We made an exception for him.
