Say HCI is an enhanced server. If you don't already sell 'em, it could be game over, man

HCI is software defined

Dell owns VMware , they are Microsoft's best friend and the biggest Nutanix partner.

This is why Dell dominates the HCI market and will continue to grow and dominate this market.

No one is queuing up to define their data center on Ontap. The future is VMW and MS defined data centers running on Dell Hardware.

Hyperscale oligarchs to rule the cloud as the big get bigger, and the small ... you won't care

I can remember IBM telling us that one day there would be just four giant Mainframes in the world . Two in the USA one in Europe and one in Asia and they would run everything.

Things change.

Let the compute see the data... to smash storage networking bottlenecks

We support NVME on servers,, the future will be HCI clusters based on these high performance NVME servers. The bottleneck moves to the back-end network but that is part of the bottleneck merry go round.

I think Cisco should buy Netapp . It might not solve any problems but it would be entertaining.

Storage Spaces

The answer you are looking for is Storage Spaces https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/storage/storage-spaces/storage-spaces-direct-overview

Why would MS drive museum exibits like Left Hand and Netapp when they can launch on prem Azure and Hybrid cloud Azure on their own IP. If HPE are involved in the launch in April it will be providing Spaces ready Nodes.

Storage Spaces Direct uses industry-standard servers with local-attached drives to create highly available, highly scalable software-defined storage at a fraction of the cost of traditional SAN or NAS arrays. Its converged or hyper-converged architecture radically simplifies procurement and deployment, while features like caching, storage tiers, and erasure coding, together with the latest hardware innovation like RDMA networking and NVMe drives, deliver unrivaled efficiency and performance.

Storage Spaces Direct is included in Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.
