Smart ladies

Back in the 70's all the computer operators were young women. There was no IT support, if they couldn't fix it they would fly someone in from the USA to the computer with only one job and had its own room and a/c.

A couple of years later the HP45 appeared and was so popular and save you so much time we used to send someone over to Singapore to buy some at least once a year. You could only ever find one or two in the UK and we wanted at least six at a time, and they were cheaper. I still have mine and it is still working!

As a firm believer in BREXIT this ( Abandoning Galileo) was always on the cards. It does not mean that BREXIT is a bad idea. The usual bile and fear mongers are abroad again on this site.

The Blackburn Buccaneers would fly to Red Flag, across the Atlantic, without refuelling. Huge range and an effective bomber.

What do we have now?

A very complicated,un proven, short range, small bomb bay, non fighter and not really a bomber aircraft, relies on foreign states for spares and support ( Turkey!) an aircraft that is so expensive we cannot afford to put it in harms way?

Why didnt we buy a batch of F-18, more Eurofighters? or even the F -16? or for naval aviation the Rafale?

An effective airforce that we could afford and use!

We already know that QE will be loaded with US Marines and their F35 for initial deployments. She is scheduled for a Far East trip to threaten China ( dont make me laugh), and will be accompanied by a the recently re commissioned HMS Victory.

The F35 has limited range in in VSTOL version, limited carry capacity and unlikely to last against a old F16 or similar aircraft. The older F18 is still a better carrier aircraft for a third of the price. The F35 is a very expensive and limited aircraft. The US Navy is keeping their F18 and getting their fleet overhauled rather than buy the F35.

The USA operates a fleet of carriers which are supported by airborne tankers and airborne AEW, the personnel support that use the CATOBAR for launch and recovery.

Look up the Grayhound and Hawkeye.

They have been using this type of carrier for a LONG time, with these aircraft.

The steam catapult was a UK RN invention.

The new American latest carriers will have a new catapult system which is electric powered. EMALS I believe.

We could have installed CATOBAR system but our wonderful MOD needed to save 5 quid to cancelled it and now we have the worst of all combinations- a huge helicopter carrier that can take V/STOL aircraft- only one type of which exist. The F-35B is the worst version of that design- much heavier, reduced fuel load, reduced weapon load, reduced range. Makes you want to weep.

If we fit a CATOBAR system we could use a whole fleet of different aircraft.

V22 Ospreys do not get good press. They are VERY complicated and more expensive than regular choppers. They cannot carry much and they are not armoured, makes them too heavy.

Normal battle field choppers carry a lot of armour protection for the crew.

The ongoing stupidity of our MOD defies belief. Buying the carriers was no bad thing but buying them to suit only one aircraft with no Cat * Traps was just DUMB!

The F35 is regarded as a high tech slow unreliable target for the Ruskies. I am sure the Navy will do their best with it but why not give them the best available instead of USA most expensive worst aircraft ever!

All this BS just shows are senior Civil Servants are not capable of running a fish and chip shop never mind plan for the defense requirements of the UK. Our senior Armed forces officers have let us and the country down. They are highly paid and supposedly professional and have a responsibility to the UK. I have not seen one statement from any senior office actually stating the real truth ( or close to it) about the lack of capabilities of the Navy, Army or AirForce.

SHAME on them.
