Huge approval rating
View from a local:
Duterte has a huge approval rating in his own country. He is working to clean up the corruption, this is not an overnight task. He is also trying to break the control a few big families and the church has on the country. FB is removing right-wing stories as well as fake news. Meanwhile they are leaving left-leaning news alone. FB is becoming a biased outlet for news (I wonder if a certain Mr Clegg has anything to do with this). FB IS the news channel for many SE Asians. The only reason the locals care about losing ABS/CBN news (very anti-Duterte, they make the BBC look like amateurs) is because their favourite soap opera vanished :-)
Meanwhile Duterte told the Police to shoot drug dealers who fight back when being arrested. Nobody in the Philippines feels sad for these people except for their immediate family, he's told everyone they will get shot if they are involved with drugs. The EU and some other human rights bodies are complaining while their own countries are basket cases. Go fix your own issues in the banlieus of Paris & Stockholm and the back streets of LA first!
Bad thing about him? He's got a big mouth like Trump and he's a womaniser (nearly all Asian men are exactly the same). The people know and don't care. They like feeling safer again (petty crime is down) and they like his directness after generations of Acuinos and Marcos BS.
