People that claim to know how to measure it have published results showing Pi 4 Ethernet bandwidth exceeding 900Mb/s. The 300ish figure is what the Pi 4b claimed.
I don’t much care; whatever the number is, it works pretty well for my usage. Which, as it happens, is as a Smalltalk engine attached to my iMac. Why run it on a (certainly slower than iMac) Pi? Because I have particular requirements to use ARM machines.

My 2012 iMac is still happy. I get updates to all the base apps regularly for free. I pay for occasional updates to indigodomo to run my Insteon setup. I’ve paid for a couple of updates to RapidWeaver over the last 15 years. Oh, and likewise for my accounting package.
Never yet been told to replace the machine. I probably *will* once a large screen ARM64 iMac appears.

Yes, an FLA would perhaps have been better - not mention cooler- if for example “Black Lives Also Matter” had been chosen. BLAM is kinda nice for a T-shirt slogan. None of which would have stopped assholes from being assholes.

Nobody, nobody, should use Scratch 2. I’d stick with the version 1.4 delivered with Raspberry Pi OS . Which, as it happens I am currently updating a bit to use the pulse audio that they decided to set as default.
It is, after all, the version in use on the ISS.
Waaaay back I was an IBM Research Fellow at the UK Scientific Centre. We got a big (very) shiny new 4250 printer - a weird thing that did very high quality but on that horrible metallised paper that you had to then photocopy (never xerox, not at IBM!).
Couldn’t get any output. The driver insisted it was printing. Eventually the colleagues playing with sent a job saying basically “call me at UKSC if you find this” and shortly later we got a vnet mail from the Australian scientific centre.
Agree with almost everything you’ve written in this thread.
C++ was a bad idea and too complex right from the start. All it ever did was let lazy C users write a file with a cpp extension and claim “hey, I’m programming objects!”
It would be nice if any ‘new’ language had actually learned from Smalltalk, which is *still*, after 50 years, they only language good enough to be worth critiquing.

I’d argue that new programmers should be taught documenting before any sort of programming language! Along with actually reading in order to understand specifications and requirements.

Quora provides an existence proof that not only are there stupid questions but that there are a near infinite number of people sufficiently stupid that they are willing to ask them again and again and again ad infinitum.
Pi 3 is ARMv8 - as is the Pi 3+ and the Pi 4. It’s just that Raspbian is currently run in v7 compatibility mode for reasons. There is a 64bit/v8 kernel for testing and several other OSs such as Gentoo.
Pi 3 is A53 40nm quad core, Pi 4 is A72 28nm. For the only benchmarks I care about (Smalltalk) Pi 4 is about 3x faster than 3 and about 25% of my i7 iMac - for about 2% of the price.
I used to work at a Palo Alto research lab of some repute. Meetings that ran over lunch could be catered, so obviously all meetings ran over lunch. Out of about 200 staff, two were catering arrangers. I swear they had an underground conveyor to the posh sushi place on University Ave. And 3pm Friday was Beer o’clock.

Insteon does just that. It was the best bet when I built my house 10years ago but is probably beaten by ZWave now.
Makes it simple to have many lights operated by many buttons or timers or whatever - I have a button by my front door to signal ‘out for the day’ that then causes lights to turn on as it gets dark, change over an evening etc. When I return I press it again and a variety of lights come on , things go back to normal etc.
I live in a very pickup populated area. Driving to the shops yesterday it struck me that suddenly all those Princess Pickups looked very old and a bit sad.
If the stainless body works out ok I’d be very happy to buy a car built along the same lines. With the... advanced... ages of the population here, parking skill is not exactly high. My current Subaru got dinged and scraped the first time I took it shopping. I haven’t bothered to repair it because I know it would get crunched again almost immediately.
Hmm, back in ancient times when I worked there (I designed a doohickey to help in the manufacturing process) the blades were investment cast, cooled in such away as to create a single crystal and then the root profile was cleaned up by broaching. I’d be surprised if bulk grinding is used instead of that basic process.
