What About The Transmission Lines?

Something I never hear about when people are touting turning electricity for everything is how are existing transmission lines going to hold up under teh increased demand. Just look at California, the biggest wildfires have been caused by faulty and/or poorly maintained transmission lines. Adding more demand to the grid will only exacerbate these problems (can you say rolling blackouts?). Green is good but what about when things fail and burns everything to black?

Following Google's Lead?

Maybe they're planning on building servers like Google did when they started. Although these servers would be for crypto mining, not doing evil.

Re: Nobody is required to accept cash (except the issuer).

"[Even then, the hoops you have to jump through to pay your taxes in cash would kill a normal person.]"

Not entirely true. You can pay your taxes in cash at participating 7/11 stores although there is a $3.99 transaction fee and you're limited to $1000 per day.

I've seen the future of consumer AI, and it doesn't have one

WTF?

Security Anyone?

There seems to be a glaring omission in the discussion of putting "AI" into household items: Security! What happens when the manufacturer includes software/firmware without good security or doesn't update software/firmware? If it's connected to the Internet it will eventually be hacked. Period. I'd hate to come home and my "smart" thermostat has been set to max heat, my freezer is doing a defrost cycle melting my ice cream (the horror!) and my stove was turned on high setting the pizza bo on top on fire. This is all assuming someone hasn't hacked my smart locks and locked me out of my house.

Velocity Units

"due in part to better clocks and improved data on the Earth's position and velocity in space"

Does the improved data regarding Earth's velocity use the speed of a sheep in a vacuum as its benchmark?

Public Comments are Public, Awareness Is Private

"The process also received an enormous amount of attention, so it is going to be very hard for the states to argue persuasively that the public comment process that is designed to ensure that decisions are not made in secret is valid in this case."

There's a difference between a lot of attention and an official public comment period. An official comment period involves gathering public comments over an established period of time to be reviewed and taken into consideration by the office/department that is proposing the law/regulation/change in administrative practices etc. Just because you're aware of something doesn't mean you have the ability to directly comment to the decision makers.
