Early MySQL engineer questions whether Oracle is unintentionally killing off the open source database

The Bloke next door

Oracle did not buy mysql

Sun microsystems bought mysql for $1billion. Oracle then bought Sun and acquired all of Sun's assets, including mysql.

They will kill mysql just like they have done with Solaris, SPARC and java.

Is the $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope worth the price tag?

Jwt, $10billon uk test and trace, £38billion..

One is a complete waste of public money, the other will stun the world with images from the beginning of the universe.

Re: My contribution ...

For a moment there, I thought I knew you....

When I first joined Sun in '87 the sales database in the local offices was Ingres. During a demonstration of how to run a task on a remote machine via the new "on" command, the office became noticeable busier with increasingly raised voices.

Upon asking what the issue was, it transpired that the Ingres database had disappeared, cue some detective work. It appeared that "on" mounted the whole directory containing the programme being run on the remote machine under /tmp. Read /write too..by anyone.

At the remote site, fed up with people putting files in /tmp, a colleague had a cron job that periodically scanned /tmp and removed extraneous files (and directories).

Someone's getting a free trip to the US – well, not quite free. Brit bloke extradited to face $2m+ cyber-scam charges

It's only money...

If he had killed someone by driving on the wrong side of the road and then fled the country, being extradited is fair.

But having committed the cardinal sin of stealing money from an American company, the U.K. quietly fulfils its subservient role to the US.

Pardon?

If an English court finds Lynch / Autonomy innocent, why would the UK send him to the US?

As for extradition, forget it. It's not like he killed anyone by driving on the wrong side of the road and then skipping the country.
