In a past life I was a software tester. One of the supported languages was Japanese, I used to be able to do Oracle installs by remembering which the right buttons and dialogues were in the installer.

I started working at a research facility at about this time. The computational chemists were very unhappily moving off the SGI boxen to Linux workstations[0] and the bioinformatics folks were moving off Solaris boxen to Linux servers.
[0] They seemed to resent moving off colourful SGI workstations that cost more than many people's salary onto dull HP workstations

Somewhere I used to work had an attic where we kept spares etc. The attic itself was about a metre higher than the exit of the main lift so they'd put a scissor lift in. One day the Health and Safety gods declared this was dangerous and mandatory annual training was required. The end result of this was that people carried heavy things up and down the stairs adjacent to the scissor lift which was probably more dangerous...

Last year I needed to travel back to the UK with fixed dates. I'd done the journey before on the aeroplane and got surprisingly little work done (contractor said paid by the hour). I thought I'd try taking the railway instead so I can a) work longer, b) enjoy it more and c) have a nice lunch in Paris[0].
In the end I found I could work well on the TGV and in the Eurostar terminal in Paris. Surprisingly, I could also do work in most of the Chunnel. Once the train was in Kent it kept dropping, south of London I found it to be unusable. Overall, I made a "profit" as I could work more than whilst flying which more than made up for the extra cost[1]. Had the signal been better then I would have been able to work more.
[0] Where the hell is the Paris icon when I need her?
[1] I can see how the Paris - London leg could attract a premium price, but coming from the rest of France is a lot less convenient than flying. If we're going to cut CO2 emissions then surely the cost of doing journeys like these need to fall

I assume that the same sex dating sites screw[0] their customers in the same way the ones targeting straight people do. Maybe there are also extra things they do too.
I'm guessing (like me) that the OP is straight and therefore doesn't know much about the gay sites.

I used to help organise a meeting for the local datascientists with the local universities and other research facilities. The unis just booked a room and nipped to the supermarket for crisps and beer. The company I worked for had some agreement signed with a catering company that said that we could only get food and drinks through them. That meant we had to hire them which included having two people handing the food and drink out and a huge markup on the drinks which ended up costing loads; we only offered to host it once...

When I did lab IT support, I was trying to make a machine called a Crystal 16 work. I can't remember what the problem was, but I remember unthinkingly putting that into Google and regretting it! When a former employer deployed MTM scanning of all work traffic, the edict came out that no personal things at all were allowed on Company computers; however, you could do this stuff on the phones if you like. The Company Outlook / Edge were locked down on the devices though. That seemed like a reasonably pragmatic solution.
