Apple* have a habit of slowing devices with successive version of IOS. Any idea if the encryption in the OS slows the phones and tablets? A small hit would be worth it for the increased security, but I don't want my devices effectively turned into a treacle.

I suspect that a RaspberryPi would not be as tough as one of the specialist boards and would have a much shorter lifetime. On the other hand, if it lasts until a day or two after the warranty expires then that's great for the vendor.

The Guardian - quality?

The main reason I have yet to pay the Guardian any money is the continuous decline in quality. If they stopped publishing articles about Thomas the Tank Engine being racist then people might start to pay them money again.

It's not just the Guardian, the Telegraph seems to be in decline too. Really Britain needs as much of its quality media to survive to hold the Government to account.

DNA replication is an error-prone process. Although there are a number of things people can do to "provoke" cancer, some people are just unlucky.

There was an interesting paper that came out recently showing that even in the first division of the recently fertilised egg there are mutations that are detectable for ever. Paper & press release for the people who aren't genomics geeks

In this scenario, I'd rather have security fixes only and stay on an older version of the OS. My ipad 4 suffers from all sorts of slowdowns and is quite annoying to use these days.

I meant more that we have AMD boosting core count (for normally priced chips) and Intel are releasing the combined memory/disc. It'll be very interesting to see how they perform in the real world and whose system is faster.

I don't understand people who work for a bad company after say they are 40 or so. Speaks more to their bad judgement or poor life decisions than the quality of companies out there.

Often people would have to move or take on a large commute, so there are a few things to bare in mind.

Kids?

Single parent?

A partner with a decent job in the area?

Age discrimination?

Decent pension at $CURRENTJOB compared to some crappy "money purchase" scheme at another place
