When I used to do a lot of R, I realised I was basically a HadleyTidyverse programmer as "Core R" was nowhere near as useful.

Don't forget that the EU is a union of 27 different countries, each of which chooses how and when to implement new systems like this. I suspect that it will go well in small tech-savvy places like Estonia, and will be a complete fiasco in others like France and Greece.
I recently travelled from Paris to London via Eurostar. Whilst leaving Paris, I showed my permanent Swiss residency card to the French border control officer and she (incorrectly) told me the Swiss ID wasn't valid there before stamping my passport. If the new fangled gates "know" the rules better than their staff then that's a good thing.
They need to stop the pesky French from running their trains there too
