A phone like this would be ideal for me as I like outdoor sports (MTB, SKI etc); but I need a phone with a good battery so it lasts all day when GPS tracking.

BTW I've been in a situation where I needed to call an ambulance for a guy with a large hole and the phone was out of juice - not fun...

There is one obvious result from conscription in Israel - most women have had a mandatory self-defence course and a bloody good one to boot. As a result you can see a young lady going out on a jog alone in the park at times when it will be considered suicidal in UK or USA - like 11pm+ or even in the wee hours.

You also see that here in Switzerland; only Swiss men have compulsory military service.

Is there actually a "central" number in the UK? I can think of NHS, NI, passport and DVLA* but can't think of a "central" one.

*Of these only the NHS number is universal ie covers children, no drivers etc.

A very good point. I imagine there are a lot of people who think that their experience is "normal" and never bother to complain. Not to mention the people who don't have the time/inclination to escalate their complaint to the regulator...

Different social networks for different things?

I deliberately keep my activity on social networks for different things. My Instagram has photos that I've taken, my FB is for keeping track of my friends, my Twitter is unrelenting HPC & geekiness. Consequently I probably have very different followers on each.

If you're running some kind of cloud-based solution then it makes a lot of sense to push the processing the clients so they pay for the electricity and potentially lower the incoming bandwidth.

I don't think the OS matters in this scenario. It seems obvious to me that all these medical instrument controllers should be isolated from the rest of the network (with some proxy to get information like patient name in and the data out).

Last autumn I stay in a hotel in Athens and decided that reading by the pool would be a nice way to spend an afternoon. I put my room key card on top of my Kindle which has a magnetic case; I ended up have to go to the reception in rather wet swimming gear to get back into my room...
