Linus Torvalds goes back to a mechanical keyboard after making too many typos

Still on PS/2 here

My boss still uses 20 year old hardware which pleases me as I can still use my Model M-style ps/2 connected keyboard. It's the sort that has the backslash key to the right of the right-shift, just under the Enter. The most-used, most-perfect feature is the 10-key. Now does anyone here know how to convert an android phone dial to a 10-key layout? I'd be eternally grateful as my fingers have never been able to make the switch to a phone layout sight-unseen.

Re: Stories from Grandad

Surely I've seen 'dozen' written more often than '12'. Let's go with that limit as being smaller than 13 rather than 11.

(Plus I must mention the written formula: Two + eleven - one = TwØelɇven̷ )

Updating, please wait a moment

There's a single spot in front of 5062 N Raider Rd (northbound lane, near a stop sign just a bit to the south of Shenandoah High School) that is a couple years older than the surrounding. It shows three small trees with no fence, whereas all the other nearby streetview photos show 2 larger trees inside a new chain-link fence (the littlest tree didn't survive).

Why re-invent the wheel when the wheel is up for purchase?

My single venture into it has been through Sage BusinessWorks, which had worked flawlessly for the duration I was at my previous employer. The two most significant advantages over other software is the Separation of Duties ability, and the inability to delete transactions (they must be backed-out properly, instead). How I wish my current employer was interested in those benefits, among numerous others.

Re: Wow 1% discount

I had one of those 2 years ago and kept it on my desk at work. It cleans up easier than most of the units out there which is the best I can say about it. It's cheap, but effective. There are no metal parts, just plastic that's painted silver. My unit held up for 6 months with heavy use of 5 to 6 cups a days.

Yet another 'solution':

How about they remove all the seating and post 'no standing' signs on the top deck. With everyone on the top deck seated on the floor, if necessary they could just lean back or lie down as the bridge passes overhead. In addition, they could easily have everyone who goes up there sign a waiver which states they'll follow all posted safety precautions.

Why so salty, Ceres? Is it on account of your underground oceans and cryovolcanism?

Asteroid B-612

We earthlings should rename Ceres: Asteroid B-612

Since it had a volcano that needed tending to, water to help the Rose live and grow, and no current Baobab trees to speak of, we may assume that the Little Prince left when his Rose and all other plant life died.

Especially true if we can calculate Ceres' day to be long enough to forever remain in daylight simply by walking in the appropriate direction.

Re: A little redundant

I'm more of a candidate for Lasek, and yes, there is also Lasik. Thanks for clarifying the usage parameters of this robotic device, hopefully in time they'll be able to expand its usage. Be safe everyone!

carolinahomes

A little redundant

Saying:

"was able to trace a square of 0.5mm by 0.5mm"

is plainly redundant.

How about:

"was able to trace a 0.5 mm square"?

Sign me up when it gets better than Lasek! I've been leery of the complications that arise with current methods.

Spiders are the answer!

Let's just send billions of genetically modified metal-eating spiders up into space to catch all the fragments. If they can design their webs strong enough to catch the small stuff and weak enough to break when a working satellite passes through, then bingo! No more debris!

Trade school recommendation

There is probably a decent market for these.

As this is predominately a learning experience, how about if the schools were to line up buyers at material cost and just start building them one after the other. When one sells, build another. Keep it going all semester long and that way everyone will have more and more ideas as they keep building.

Possible Fix: Link to the insurance carrier?

If only it were possible for JLR to be able to confirm current owner identity by linking to the current insurance carrier of the vehicle. If the current insured name doesn't match what JLR already has, just send out a notification postcard to the insured on file that they need to come in for a reset.
