Re: The modern museum

Nobody in their right mind thinks that Linux is the pinnacle of OS design (much less Windows). That's not the point. The point is that Linux servers are ubiquitous and just "good enough" for just about everything you might want a server for. It may very well be that in some respects, VMS is better. But it doesn't matter, because better than "good enough" is still "good enough".

"We'll know how good AI is the day a tech exec puts a person in front of the car, and sets the car off to drive at them without a human operator to override the AI."

Surely you mean "the day a tech exec stands in the way of a car driven towards them by an AI with no human operator to override the AI"?

It's "Süddeutsche".

If you want to refer to "Süddeutsche Zeitung" by a short name, use "Süddeutsche". That's what any German speaker would do. "Zeitung" just means "newspaper" and could be any German-language newspaper that have that word in their name ("Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" comes to mind, which consequently is commonly referred to as "Frankfurter Allgemeine", or "FAZ").

But if you say "Süddeutsche", everyone with a passing knowledge of the German press landscape will know what you are talking about.

Milk IN the teapot: Innovation or abomination?

Thumb Down

Milk in the thermos? Yuck!

First off: Don't use teabags, use a tea filter and loose leaves. Second: Milk in the thermos you brew your tea in? YUCK! How would you ever clean that completely? Tea has no fat or other stuff that could grime up your thermos (the patina tea leaves is innocuous), but milk?

And -- do you know everybody wants milk in their tea? I, for one, do not.
