16 million IP addresses does indeed seem like a lot, but the amount of relief that might have provided had they managed to return say half of them to the overall pool would have been minimal. Only ever so slightly postponing the inevitable.
And in the case of Apple, they perhaps use a goodly chunk of those IPs not on a per-employee basis as much as in their cloud presence.
Alas, Garlic in Gilroy isn't what it used to be. 20+ years ago there were days you could smell the garlic in Gilroy all the way up in Sunnyvale. But since then garlic has been giving way to tract housing, so Gilroy may not be able to provide as much protection as you might think.
So, basically, Solar Impulse 2 circumnavigated the globe in 2015-2016 at basically the same rate at which the Vin Fiz crossed the United States in 1911.
