I was born in 1992 so this all happened before I was able to pay attention to any of it; I love hearing about these days though. In like 2007 or so I had to read and write a book report and I picked the Swedish translation of "Just For Fun".

I've been using a 2018 11 inch ipad pro as my personal "laptop" since around then and it is still going strong. The keyboard case when it was released in 2020 was pricy but works well.
As you mention in the article iSH, aShell, BlinkShell, SecureShellfish, and Pythonista might not be quite enough but it gets the job done for me. I just want an arm-based return of the 12 inch macbook to be honest. Small computers rule and the 13 inch air is too big.

I tend to generate static electricity when I go to get coffee or go to the bathroom. When sitting down again and touching my laptop made out of metal with a grounded charger I usually feel a chock. If I go for my phone while it's connected to the laptop instead the chock is usually stronger for some reason.
