er, i got an HP TX1340EA, i bought it last year..
12.1" TFT 1280 x 800 ( WXGA ) (check it on amazon)
it's a "tablet" pc, i could have done without the touch screen and swivel screen and save £100-200 (full price = £700!), but it's still a nice little lappy :D
cheers,
bill
(no link to my forum, i got told off!)
actually what with them being a helluva lot quiter than the infernal combustion variety, probably!
i can't see one of these screaming up the M1 after some armed bank robbers..but, as long as they turned the here-i-come sirens off!, could sneak up on crimbo's more easily?!
guess they could use a lightning or a tesla for those sorts of chases???
seriously any move to leccy ve-hickles is to be praised!
down with the oil pigs! :D
cheers,
bill

ehehe, reminds me of a hover-fly. ever seen a hover-fly come into your house and check your place out?!
wonder why nobody's ever made a tv doc about the hover fly?
anyway, this shold help with urban clearance, unless you american, then you can just chuck grenades into the room, women & children or not, ala haditha..^^

i bought a 12", amd dual core with 1280x800 ish resolution for £700 and i thought *that* was expensive!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-Media-Center-tx1340ea-Entertainment/dp/B000XUIYH8
great little lappy, but i would have preferred to do away with the touch and swivel screen and saved £100 or more ^^
cheers,
bill

omg..
the next big thing for lappy's...subwoofers! lol!
that is gonna EAT ur battery baby...that'd have to be a mains-only party..or with some generator chugging away i the back ground on a campsite..
...or maybe a bloke on a bike, like in rob newmans "history of oil"...btw, *well worth watching* ;)

bill

er, wtf...
the whole sorry mess was in terminal decline anyway..it wasn't the city rover that wot done it, govnor..
..actually i quite like that 'rally-lite' class of car..juding by the state of the criminally underfunded road network in britain right now, you actually *need* cars with some decent ground clearance to get around..also, so i'm told, what with those pesky life-saving speed bumps, the incidences of cars needing to have their broken road springs replaced is shooting up. i just had to replace one on an old bmw 318 just to get it sold.
ironically, imo, rover actually started to make some nice models at the death..some of the little mg 200's looked quite cool, and the facelifted 800 was quite groovy for that class.
trouble is new model development is SO expensive and they couldn't afford to get stuck in to the r&d required to effect this..so went bust. (that's even *with* using honda models as their base!).
but british leyland were on a permanent downward spiral anyway, a testament to very bad management.
all those famous brands like triumph (which i call the "english bmw") which were swallowed up and taken over the cliff in a fatal embrace with all those other brands..(i had two 2500's and loved 'em). the dolly sprint was one of the first cars to have 16valves (on a 4 pot) and if you don't get excited by a stag, then you ain't a true motor head!
aah!
fyi i now have a C220 merc diesel which does between 40-50mpg.
bbbbbut, if leccy cars were all around us and available 2nd hand i would buy one tomorrow..
GET ON WITH IT!!!
cheers,
bill

that's a definite wow design, really like it..
nice idea on wholesailing something that people can make their own and resell..
rather like "white box" pc's?!
wowsa, the car industry talking a leaf out of the pc biz!
(yes i know about kit cars)

vewy nice!
like the mclaren-esque central driving position as well..very bond..
the momentum for leccy ve-hickles is finally here, it would seem..
bring it on, the more the merrier..hows that chinese BYD firm doing?

same specs!
i've been waiting for something with AT LEAST a reasonable cpu and AT LEAST 700+ verticle res, but higher would be welcome..
currently got a gutless HP2133 with a very weak 1.2ghz viz cpu in it..PAH!
..decided to use it as a download-monkey instead, but i might replace the mobo if HP give subsequent models some decent beef..
cheers,
bill
p.s. stuff and nonsense: http://www.eupeople.net/forum
imo, these are what laptops always should have been..not the 15.4 hordes that seemed to be out there..
i got an HP2133 mini-note, bit gutless, prob better served by atom or twin-atom, not the anemic, but miserly via c7m, but nice 800 verticle res..
..and the via cpu's are soldered in, so you can't plop another one in (wtf is up with that?). i know because i've opened it up!

bill

baby laptop thread: http://eupeople.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=487
i thought that all laptops, of all variants, has easy screw access to internals via the bottom side?
anyway..3 usb's are good, but 600 verticle res ain't!
this space still has plenty of room for development.
never mind..^^

what's the matter with you people?!
these people are HEROES!
ok, no, they are not. they are efficient workers. they got trained and paid and they did their jobs. it works.
why not give all concernced an extra day off, or a big fat bonus?
i'm fine with that, but you don't get to be a "hero" for doing what you're paid to do!

bill

i remember novatech used to do an screen-integrated pc and i always thought they would be cool for just browers and emailers, but this looks just weird to me!
will it have dual gpu capabilities so it can run a full screen and that little keypad monitor?
who's it aimed at?!
(look the king, he has no clothes!)
shsh, stupid boy!
cheers,
bill

i bought a very cheap hp2133 recently, but it was fitted with a painfully slow via c7m 1.2ghz...:\
unfortunately, hp decided that the cpu's were to be soldered in, so you cannot even change them. i know i open the whole thing up had a look..
pff...pc's can always change their cpu's?!
btw, if you are a hp2133 owner, you can remove the internal plastic grills from the hot air exit points and improve air flow and therefore temperature, by a not inconsiderable amount.
guide here:
http://www.hp2133guide.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=364&sid=9e59ac3101b3cb0b86d6d41bc1927268
also the thermal paste hp use is more like plasticene. remove all this and get some proper paste on there and the infamous heat problem of hp2133's is improved.
why do all sorrts of laptops seem to have their exhausts going downwards from the back, so basically you heat your er, lap? why not have the go straight out the back or up thru the lid or something?
anyway..someone is working on changing the cpu for the hp, worse ways i could slap a 1.6ghz mobo and cpu soldered combo in there, but not even sure if that will be enough..or sell it to someone and wait for something with beef to come along ^^
cheers,
bill

great, looks good on paper..
..but what will the four cores be used for?
what apps can multi-thread?
is this laptop meant for movie directors on the go?
imo, POINTLESS. what even uses a dual core properly?
laptops need to use less power, not more processing power. they should be concentrating on the reduction in the consumption of electricity and extending battery lives.
silly 'top trumps' product development leads nowhere. "i've got better specs than you! :P'
for sure, maybe with W7 or even a W7M, or something beyond that the OS will multi-thread, but looking at M$'s record in producing good clean small OS's that work a treat, what's the chances of that happening?
must be bored..
cheers,
bill
p.s. stuff and nonsense: http://www.eupeople.net/forum
..that's not a laptop, it's too long?
(puts on harry enfield scouse wig) caalm down, claam down!
fyi go check on the sony website, they had NINE families of laptops, each with about 2 or 3 members in each..!
choice is stressfull, huh?!
gimme an hp2133 with some decent cpu power and i'll be happy..
cheers,
bill
p.s. stuff and nonsense: http://www.eupeople.net/forum
thaaaaat's the way!
full electric cars backed up with generators in the boot, NOT a dual-drive system..
now that's settled let's start producing these babies en masse!
maybe in time the ridiculous hypocracy of forcing people to stop smoking everywhere but continue to breathe in the toxic, carciagenic asphixiating car exhaust fumes, will be less and less silly..
dam those infernal combustion engines!
cheers,
bill
p.s. stuff and nonsense: http://www.eupeople.net/forum ;)
yeah that should bring in some leads..^^
have to say ( i used to live round the corner from this exchange, in globe road in stepney), the commercial road is one of the busiest in london..you have to marvel at the functioning grey matter in deciding to give this blag a go!

i "grew up" in my i.t. career working under vms, from 1.5 thru to 7.3
i mostly came thru data centre operations, thru senior operator, shift leader, then operations analyst (untold DCL routines i wrote)..and eventualy (sort of) a "systems analyst" (in the famous words of roy chubby brown "i dunno what it is loov, but i'll have a f*cking good look at it for ya!")..
as stated in the first post, vax/alpha/vms reliability was/IS the best. "5 9's" reliability (99.999%), with the alpha in 92 providing 64 bit computing and clustered hardware providing ultimate fault tolerance via soft switchable fail over..(..and this worked a treat, i saw it a few times).
M$'s "wolfpack" and "MSCS" , where are they now?!
personally, i think M$ had vms murdered, by allowing one of it's stooges (Compaq) to buy it up for $7bn in 97 and quietly suffocate vms, much to my eternal anger..i believe vms may have been sold, or it's still sitting in some dusty corner at HP central (the people who bought Compaq)..and, as seems to be the eternal case, the bigger the company, the worse it gets, so it's as good as dead at HP.
what ever became of the 64bit alpha chip i don't know, but i do remember there was a version of 64 bit windows that would run on an alpha, like 8 years ago..but that was quietly suffocated as well ^^
in this day and age of *requirements* for this type of simplicity of platform (ffs, how many versions of the IX's are there???) and UNTOLD reliabilty and ease of use (as anyone who ever worked on them will tell you, DCL is a *joy* to code, F$GETDVI anyone?!), why the hell wasn't vms the platform of choice for all critical apps?
(i don't know if this is still the case but apparently the NYSE still runs on vms, tho that could have changed it was a while since i heard that one..apparently they refused all overtures to get them onto something rubbish and i don't blame them!)
so, kids..before someone spouts off and tells you how "marvellous" any form of unix or linux is, remember, as far as server OS's go, you can't beat vms!
it's awesome.
cheers,
bill

...stalinist russia?
that's disgusting.
what would he have done if he knew the police wanted to speak to him, run away to another country?
the biggest 'threat to our freedoms' is not the mythical "al queda", but our own police and government!

there's around 80m in the chicom-nazi criminal clique..
there's around 900m poor downtrodden chinese people.
if i were a commie, i wouldn't feel safe.
(never mind about tibet or the uighurs, the chinese people THEMSELVES are slaves living in a ghetto. it just so happens to *look* like a tawdry, mucky version of a western country..)

it's called LEADERSHIP.
the oil-pigs and their lobbyists have had it their way for far too long. 5 mins would have been too long.
these b*stards have held mankind back.
did you know that in 1900 there were more electric cars than oil burning ones?
standard oil, the rockefellas soon put a stop to that.

totally agree m8, that's why i today just took delivery of a nice shiny hp 2133 with a 1280 x 800 screen!
check this, for only £227 inc vat! (with linux, but XP's gonna have to go on there)..
http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=53dd#specifications
..with a 9-inch ("8.9") display, only just over 1" smaller screen than this tart.
don't take my word for that retailer, it's just that it's them that's punting out these at this price. they're not bad tho ;)
HP made the newer 2133's with 600 verticle res, but if you can find the older models (like this one on the link), they still have the 800px screens..
problem for me right now, is that the 1.2ghz VIA prob won't be enough (to run DJ software "serato"), so i'm gonna have to upgrade to at least a 1.6 or maybe even a 2.0ghz.
i'll post pics and details on my forum ;)

..but good.
oh those japanese boffins!
presumably, one could watch this whilst driving and then crash into someone because you weren't paying attention to the road in front?
..or is it only for parking?
quite cool!

pirate sign, because you'll be able to see if anyone tries to board you!
(mines the leather jacket...)
good.
btw, i can second that last comment about "coding for IE6". i do basic web dev and i write to FF and fix to IE...and it's usually quite a bit of fixing.
if i didn't have to do this browser compatibilty dance each time i got a bit of work, i could possibly shave 5-10% off the workload! (ahem, but obviously would still charge the same!).
i would also like to point out that the "first 10 days in november" thing, is not so exclusive. these sorts of 40+% figures for FF are echoed at w3schools.com:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
..which i also like because you can look back over the progression/regression of FF and various other browsers, including the steady decline of IE, which is always nice to see! ;)
