Huawei's latest smartphone for the UK market costs £1,299. And yes, that's without Google apps

Ashto5

Wow just wow

That is a crazy price, good luck to anyone who pays it.

Apples latest is also an off the scale price.

I purchased outright an iPhone 8 for less than £400 it does everything I need.

The money saved I can get a 3 year old twin Xeon desktop with 128gb a 500gb raid 5 ssd setup and g cards to support 8 monitors.

Hmm but it is shiny ....

Brit council tosses Serco a £50m contract extension as coronavirus pandemic leaves in-sourcing plans in tatters

Ashto5

Still in the Dark Ages

This really annoys me.

We live in a world where I can get a pizza delivered in 20 mins, silicone sealant delivered in under 24 hrs

AND YET

Council services are still NOT centralised, it is the same set of services in each council.

Bins, library, housing, etc etc

Honestly I do not think these Council people are worth the money being paid.

Serco etal are just riding the gravy train

£25 million a year seriously!!!!!

It is NOT in Serco interest to help centralise they NEED every council paying through the nose for the same services.

Office for budget responsibility should be all over this, it’s insane.

Facepalm

How many of the jobs going are executive jobs ?

I mean they will need those guys to fix the problems with the plane won’t they ?

Android trojan EventBot abuses accessibility services to clear out bank accounts – fortunately, it's 'in preview'

Where IS The Protection

Apple / Google etal

Should implement a protection strategy, that FORBIDS users to download and install applications that have NOT been put through hard core security testing.

IF they cannot protect the device then how the hell is a user tech or not supposed to ?

*Example*

I forwarded a suspect email to the security team via the dodgy email button in outlook, I did my part.

Security opened the email and then opened the attachment, it encrypted every share within the company followed by popups asking for money.

These companies / individuals need to be held responsible for the job they do / product they supply.

Google is a 'publisher' says Aussie court as it hands £20k damages to gangland lawyer

Ashto5

How can it have affected him ?

The guy still went in to have a career and a good one by the sounds of it.

Google should take this in the chin and see what it can do about linkage and dating, then people who are cleared could inform the search engine of the linkage and viola the 2 things can be shown together.

Historical fact and historical outcome.

This will only work by the person informing the search engine of the linkage.

May be labour intensive but that should be the price of being the top dog in the search world.

More than one-fifth of smartphone sales evaporate in China as pandemic grips Middle Kingdom

Big Data Big Brother

From all of the press on China, it would seem that you do need a “smart” phone or “comrade on your shoulder” to live there.

Apple are in for a bumpy time, the price is too high for their devices and in the west people are going to be tightening there belts.

Apple may be a bite to expensive for most.

America and apple need to bring the manufacturing back home while they can, it’s hard to sell buy American when it’s made in China.

Google calls a halt on Chrome 82, but the version 83 beta has arrived early – so it's coding and bug finding time ahead

Happy Web Dev

Every time Chrome gets an update I try to re watch “The Internship”.

Mayday! Mayday! The next Windows 10 update is finally on approach to a PC near you

Odd One Out

I develop code everyday and generally it is the over paranoid security dept that bugger windows up.

I have not had a problem other than finding some pieces that have been relocated.

Win 10 just seems to do the job for moi.

I feel like the odd one in here.

HMRC claims victory in another IR35 dispute to sting Nationwide contractor for nearly £75k in back taxes

Ashto5

IR35 Victim

Hmmm

Smacks of hypocrisy, maybe HMRC need to flip this around.

Employee acting like a contractor should be liable for their own taxes, pass all the taxes to the disguised contractor.

Still the unfortunate victim of IR35 can now claim holidays and all the other perks of being an employee, and surly both parties acted in good faith which is what the judgement in a prior case stated and therefore HMRC was not allowed to claim the tax.

This totally looks like HMRC have decided that contractors as a group MUST have assets and is going after them.

Researchers trick Tesla into massively breaking the speed limit by sticking a 2-inch piece of electrical tape on a sign

Ashto5

Re: Does it ...

It isn’t the distance between lamppost that determines a 30mph zone

It is the presence of lampposts, without signage to tell you otherwise then limit is 30mph

Too many speeding courses ...

UK political parties fall over themselves to win tech contractor vote by pledging to review IR35

Ashto5

IR35 CLASSIC HMRC TAX GRAB

IR35 was invented by labour to stop people being forced into Ltd companies by business.

It is based on a falsehood, and now in order to “protect” workers they have morphed it into a tax rule to cripple individuals.

Permies who support this need to understand a few truths

We pay as much if not more taxes than you

We don’t get your benefit package

We enjoy being at the top of our game

This article is about how fast politicians can offer and retract statements

You cannot trust any of them

Companies will suffer and outsourcing will shoot up and eventually permies will be dismissed as the knowledge industry moves to India

Careful what you wish for

20% of UK businesses would rather axe their contractors than deal with IR35 – survey

Ashto5

Because they are expensive

Total rubbish, if you think hiring a professional is expensive try hiring an amateur!!

Next time you see a day rate you think is too high, phone your plumber and ask what he charges.

I reapply for my contract every 3 months, when did you last reapply for your job ?

Finally if you don’t like contractors then just refuse to work with them, your company will appreciate your honesty and flexibility.

I am sick of people playing down the skills of contractors, if your employer thought YOU could do he wouldn’t need us.

Sysadmin trained his offshore replacements, sat back, watched ex-employer's world burn

Ashto5

IP is all you have why give it away?

Your IP is all you have NEVER train your replacement.

A company i worked for as feelance no longer required mine and 2 others services as "they dont need us anymore" they now employ 19 permies to do the work and they are failing

, they also use offshore and thats not working either.

If you think a professional is expensive, try using an amateur

UK Home Sec: Give us a snoop-around for WhatApp encryption. Don't worry, we won't go into the cloud

Ashto5

Mission Impossible

Too many people have too much to lose to allow this through.

No matter how much access the HMG have they will not be able to stop a nut job.

You all know that the tech companies have backdoors in their software?

They just don't tell you.

Bank in the UK? Plans afoot to make YOU liable for bank fraud

Ashto5

Banks its your fault

I have a friend who claimed chip and pin was fool proof, he had read the documentation on the system.

I laughed at him at that point.

There is only one way that we will beat / reduce fraud, and that is with participation with the banks and their security measures.

Firstly I want to see and hear about their plans to prevent fraud, not the plan to punish me for using THEIR facilities.

BANK’s it is YOUR system not mine, if the criminal fraternity breach it that is YOUR fault.

We could have 2nd and 3rd part verification process, request and response phone messaging, please include a panic code for people being forced.

Register when going abroad, include region / city.

Then we can talk about sharing the final cost.
