BOFH: Here he comes, all wide-eyed with the boundless optimism of youth. He is me, 30 years ago... what to do?

Duncan Carter

This, so much this...

I'm not sure if the shared experiences in this world we call IT help numb the pain, or make it all seem a little less worthwhile...

Two years ago, 123-Reg and NamesCo decided to register millions of .uk domains for customers without asking them. They just got the renewal reminders...

Duncan Carter

For my sins, I'm a NamesCo customer, I've had eMails explaining what they were up to all the way through.

Yes, it's slightly underhanded, but I've had no issues logging into my account and disabling auto-renew for the 'free' domains I've neither used, nor want.

Two more counties to get gov-funded bumpkin broadband from... guess?

Re-nationalise BT...

Then we can do away with the ridiculous levels of committees involved in this, and BT might be able to get on with the job...

But what happened???

I eMailed the Reg about this about 6 this morning, I'd love to know what happened that took the BBC offline (including it seems the DNS servers).

So much for 'large' organisations having properly set up systems to avoid downtime...

All very well and good...

But as has been said time and again, useless without the backhaul capacity and while the current 'Fair Use' policies are still in place...

Crunch will fuel outsourcing

Outsourcing to save money is a joke...

I work for an outsourced section of a local council (but not for long, I've got a new job :D ).

I can safely say that outsourcing to save money is a joke. If something is done in house, it's done. If you need to do something else, you just make your employees work harder. If it's outsourced, the outsource company do what they're contracted to, and if you need anything else, they charge you a shedload more, or make you do it yourself.

The only people who win are the shareholders of the outsourcing company...

Shock horror: Advertisement misleading!

How will the world ever cope!

Seriously, if someone is gullible enough to fall for adverts in this day and age...

Pirate, cos their fees are extortionate!

Doh!

It's meant to be a 'Fools', not a '(F)Lame War'.

Or have I just fallen into the trap...

Paris, on the desktop...

Like it...

"I have gift vouchers for several major curry houses, an open tab at a number of large licensed establishments and a morally casual attitude," she responds.

Pure class :D But as has been said so many times, why now only once a month?!

Thumb Up

Yay Lenovo

I've got one, and I love it! Couldn't afford a Sony or Apple (although I'd like either...), Lenovo was the best spec and least gimmicky for the money.

Here's hoping they hold up in the ol' crisis, my next machine will definitely be a Lenovo if they survive.

People are biggest threat to IT security

Duncan Carter

Excellent!

And yet another blindingly obvious outcome. How much did this one cost?...

Can this country do anything right?

Another day, another over budget, over schedule project thats going to cost us all money and not provide something we need/want.

I'd emigrate, if it wasn't for the fact that I can't afford to save because what measley wages I get a large chunk of it goes into government coffers for crap I don't want it spent on...

And don't get me started on insurance companies...
