How did this escape TESTING ?

Answer : Ubuntu is not Gentoo, or BSD....

Re: Skie

Sky . . . .

Its not a full and complete internet connection, they block ports, shape traffic, and decide what you can or can not do with your internet connection.

EvadingGrid

Re: Zen

Zen's Tech support is very good.

They will lift the block on the e-mail port if you ask.

They do not force you to use an insecure e-mail server, like say Sky

They will give you a static ip if you ask.

They do not think running apache at home is a semi-crimminal act. If you read the small print on the big name ISP, they restrict ports and services.

Re: Sky

Minor technical port, do not give you a complete internet connection, they port block for starters.

That CIA exploit list in full: The good, the bad, and the very ugly

Re: That CIA exploit list in full?

This is what happens when you rely on reporting, instead of looking for yourself. Most of the Linux docs are instructions for n00b windows gurus to do simple stuff using Linux. The only exploits I've found so far assume the user is to thick to look in /var/log or notice the mysterious extra .config file.... RTFwikileaks.

Re: Hmm

Having lived and worked in both countries, it depends exactly on who you are, and what you wish to do, as to which country has more freedom. It also depends on where you live, Glasgow can be a lot more dangerous than a rural town in a fly-over state. Get sick, loose your job and america can be one big prison. It really depends on individual circumstances. The thing both countries have in common, is that Freedom is under constant attack by a campaigning elite using proxies.

By 2040, computers will need more electricity than the world can generate

Re: No, it just means the end of the desktop pc

What I mean is instead of one x86 computer, we will have a grid of many tiny low power devices . Count how many devices you have in the house that have a chip, and then think IoT as Cluster.

EvadingGrid

NO - it means the end of x86 style processors

Over clocked, over here, and over due for the museum

EvadingGrid

Has anyone worked out that this article really only applies to variations of IBM Clone PC ?

EvadingGrid

Re: No, it just means the end of the desktop pc

Running out of electric only applies to the over clocked IBM Clones.

EvadingGrid

No, it just means the end of the desktop pc

No it just means the end of single desktop pc built around one chip, and the migration has started with multi core processors.

The power will increase because instead of a computer, people will use a collection of machines networked utilizing anything that has a processor and connect to the network.

You will still have something looking like a desktop, but it will be a terminal to act as the controlling node on your cluster.

At present the limitation is the software, dirt cheap hardware such as the ubiquitous raspberry already exist.

In Russia mass surveillance is categorically illegal, in America its declared by the press that Ed Snowdon was the traitor. Having actually the 4th Amendment, its clear to me that the Western Press has managed to position itself as less trust worthy than Russian State Media. To complete the picture, Ed Snowdon has to hide in Russia, of all places.

Its not that Russia is suddenly not corrupt, or gained saint hood.. Its that the western media is an utter disgrace.
