Blame the Googles
Vodafone has the same mad scheme on it's future road map - virtualize the core of the network and move to NFV and SDN. They believe this will save them all the costs associated with expensive network vendor equipment (e.g. Cisco, Nokia, etc) and on staff costs as the whole provisioning process becomes a simple series of clicks.
They say they have to be like Google in order to be able to scale like Google. The mentality that "Google is a success" we should be just like Google is frighteningly naive. Why should the network of a global advertising agency match that of a mobile phone operator and ISP?
Can't wait for "The network has hung please wait while we reboot it."
