I assume the issue with breaking GDPR is with the users IP address (considered PIIl data) being sent to the USA. But Google Analytics can be configured to anonymze the users IP, which 'should' comply with the EU (and UK) GDPR

Perhaps the webmaster was unaware of this setting?
So the UK extradites its citizens to the US when they're accused of US crimes, but the US doesnt reciprocate...
Remember, remember: Anne Sacoolas - a US citizen who admited driving on the wrong side of the road in the UK, causing a car accident leading to the death of a UK biker is 'protected' from US extradition to the UK..
How very unfair...
Seeing how uncle Sam has got away with this for so long, knida explains why the same is happening in UK airports. Liverpool Airport has very obvious facial recognition cameras placed just after security and throughout the teminal, but, when asked no-one in secuirty (police included) seems to be able to explain what happens with the images taken.
When I get a car - its always a new car out of the box, right now I want/need a new car BUT:
The cost of electric cars is prohibitive (much higher than petrol or diesel)
Lack of charging points (I live t'up north - its really grim when looking for a charging point)
So I'm keeping my old banger for a bit longer than usual in the hope prices drop soon.
When selecting a location to store your Data on AWS - You need to choose a region (which has multiple redundancy) and your data is then stored in physical data centres in the geographic boundaries of that region (Region EU-West-2 is the UK).
My understanding of the US Patriot Act is that it currently does not apply to data and data centers physically in the UK.
The US Cloud Act is may be a different matter entirely!
Interesting little war I had with a local UK bank (currently up for sale - going cheap)... At one stage I was unable logon to manage my internet account with an ad-blocker/tracking blocker installed/running.... stop the blocker - all works well... Long and short of many tech support discussions with bank was - "if you want to do online banking, you agree to being tracked (they were using an using an Adobe product...) - see terms and conditions on said bank website". ICO disagreed and things quietly changed (I changed bank in the meantime)...
So who is watching you while you bank online and who has access to your "anonymized data"...?
As one of the "unfortunate few" people unable to submit my self assessement online (and yes - HMRC support and I have had some choice words), the net result was to print my tax return and post it (snail mail).
So if HRMC is looking to spend millions - how about starting with fixing the current disaster of an website - before F..ing it up any further?
