WTC collapse voted 'most memorable TV moment'

Matthew Hale

Yea those towers coming down...

.....was just great to watch. I don't know about anyone else, but I just couldn't get enough of it. I even recorded it for posterity.

Shame TV wasn't around to capture Belsen and Auschwitz etc, they would have looked fantastic in High Def with a 7.1 soundtrack I'm sure....

I'll go with the bar scene from `Only Fools and Horses`.

The Pirate Bay absconds with domain name of its nemesis

Matthew Hale

Hahaha...

....How careless of them. Still, hardly surprising they have been `usurped` by Pirate Bay chaps, who, let's be honest, are far more on the ball and capable than the try-hard profiteers and middlemen who work for such repugnant `legitimate` organisations such as the RIAA. Like the RIAA actually `care` about the `artists`..... get a grip... they are just profiteering talentless corporate thugs who skim off as much as they can from the artists. True musicians/artists will always profit sufficiently from their fanbase, and even if they didnt, they would still produce their art. Most, if not all decent artists produce their art regardless of revenue. If they don't, they are probably not `real` artists, and are instead cynically spewing out generic derivative crap to make money, and people really shouldn't care if every single one of them disappears - the world will be a richer place for it.

I was going to respond directly to the `stinky finger` but I just realised it's a little like shooting fish, it hardly seems fair... suffice to say he seems a little challenged when it comes to constructing a logical and clearly articulated argument. The alias says it all, really, such wit... I would imagine the reason your finger smells so bad is due to the fact you have it jammed in your mouth most of the time, to prevent the sh*t from spilling out. Why on earth did you remove it?

Pentagon: Chinese military hacked us

Matthew Hale

Die Hard 4.0....

....ring any bells? This whole scenario seems just as ridiculous as that film (which whilst fairly entertaining to watch at the lowest level, was utterly braindead action trash, devoid of any connection with reality).

What is it with America? Really.....life is NOT an action movie. Society will not melt down because a bunch of computers get hacked, it really won't and if it really will, and it's possible to launch such a completely devestating attack using *only* computer based systems, then frankly governments and Utilities companies really need to sort it out...

Oh and Duncan, I like it - although why only "specializes" and not "lazer"? Which also makes me wonder why the Americans dont spell Chinese, Chineze...

US teen trades hacked iPhone for Nissan 350Z

Matthew Hale

Ask a mechanical engineer...

...which is more reliable, a Nissan or a BMW. It's not the BMW, I assure you.

Same goes for most of those `cheap plastic` Jap cars these days ;)

UniquePhone answers sceptics with video

Matthew Hale

Better still...

Or better still dont listen to music on an iPod, use something less restrictive and expensive, like a creative MuVo or any one of the hundreds of other options out there ;)

But yes, spot on. Who cares!? Are there not enough products out there these days which consolidate virtually every digital feature and function you could possibly (not) need into one easy to lose, I mean use, device? I think there probably are.

Dutch police arrest six in 419 scam

Matthew Hale

Kind of...

"..The reason these people have money to be scammed in the first place is because they have had the balls to take opportunities that other people were too afraid to take."

Yes, but mostly people who get ripped off by these scams are NOT the very rich (or even the modestly wealthy) - whilst many of the very rich HAVE speculated / taken risks, they are almost always intelligent, calculated risks.

419 Scams are never along these lines. These scams work on the poor/desperate and/or greedy. There is a difference between making a lot of money by working hard and taking calculated risks (investing in niche markets etc) and being a mug who wants something for nothing. If you are talking about being rewarded for speculating and taking risks then the 419ers are the ones doing that.

"Give us a quid and we'll give you a million." erm....sure. That alone is enough for me to lost interest,

I have speculated a fair amount in my time and am doing quite well financially. The only thing I every see in any email I get sent which promises a lot for a little is B*LLSHIT.

And `balls` to take `opportunities` means what? Commitment to a business? Or do you actually think the majority of wealthy people out there made all that money because they took stupid risks? Most of them actually worked bloody hard and took CALCULATED risks/or have some kind of inheritance.

Responding to one of these email scams is the equivalent in terms of having `balls `and taking `opportunities` as walking into an arcade/casino and sticking your last £50 in the world in a fruit machine which may pay out £100 jackpot, but is very very unlikely to.

Sorry about the rant, I'm just bored.

Maybe I'll send some emails, and see what `opportunities` crop up ;)

Title

"419'ers are notoriously thick"

Maybe an element of truth in there, but it is surely those people who they (successfully) defraud who are equally (or surely even more) "thick", to use your terminology ;)

Greed, greed greed..... people never seem to learn.

Spammer gets 30 years in the slammer

Matthew Hale

Justice?! REALLY?

THIRTY YEARS?! For peddling some crappy penis pills and sending a bunch of (albeit unsolicited) emails? Whilst I don't deny that spam is a little irritating (for end users) and more so for sysadmins, it's really not that much of a problem IMO, unless you are really quite useless at deleting mail/setting up filters....30 years is wildy disproportionate, especially when you consider the sentences doled out to people who commit arguably more serious and violent offences which actually hurt people. What a weird world we live in. Doubtlessly there is some sick twisted logic at work here, along the lines of the fatuous `War On Terror` ...
