Publishing military officers' names 'creates Islamic State hitlist'

FLASH - FLASH - FLASH

It's even worse than we thought! Defeatist liberal policy enables terrorists to identify members of the military at a distance and in within crowds, by forcing our boys to wear visually distinctive uniforms! Clearly, this is going to have to change. Now, concealed weapons are a constant threat, but we also don't want terrorists to be able to identify the military by virtue of their being the only ones armed. Hence, the only acceptable policy is to require the military to go armed at all times, require civilians to carry plastic and lead mock-ups of identical mass, and ban all clothing.

Polite, helpful? Stop it at once in the name of security

Re: Security helpful...?

Yeah, some of those simple questions turn out to be kinda tricky. Is the question: (A) would I break down the door, (B) is it company policy for someone to break down the door, or (C) is it documented, subpoenable, and auditable that we throw the security process out the window in the event of a fire?

It's kinda fun watching the right trying to catch the moderates in a logical trap. "Nuh-uh! YOU'RE the cultural imperialists!"

Surely you're not suggesting that the arrogance of youth has led them to see the short term as the long term?

(I was hauling an old Apple monitor on a cart to Goodwill yesterday, one styled to match the PowerMac G3 Blue and White. People on the street were staring at it. Two came up and asked how old it was, although neither accepted my offer to just give it to them.)

I wouldn't expect it to be a big connection. Parasites have to fly under the radar of the immune system, and so do fetuses--since they're not genetically identical to the mother, there has to be a way for her immune system to tolerate the presence of cells that ordinarily would be attacked. So we'd expect anything that tweaks the one system to have some effect on the other.

The Milky Way isn't a spiral galaxy; it's a barred spiral. There's a map at Artist's impression of the Milky Way, although it isn't detailed enough to make out Skegness.

Certainly San Francisco has been greatly improved by the "disruptive technology" companies. No more unsightly "For Rent" signs, and the generally disliked teacher and health worker special interest groups are being beaten senseless by the good old Invisible Hand.

Re:"Work like a ninja"

"Work like a ninja". Good advice. Hide, spread lies about your magical abilities, do not be seen, sell routine work for premium prices, practice concealment, prefer expediency to politeness and honorable behavior, and avoid detection.

"Medical device"?

There's a reason the manufacturer would have wanted this widget classified as a "medical device." The USA does have socialized medical insurance for the elderly-- "Medicare"-- and classifying this thing as a medical device would have opened the gates for Medicare footing the bill for them.
