Re: if they're all coming on at the same time....

With respect, and regret, it ain’t quite that simple. The issue isn’t so much the amount of power being used, as is the rate of change of usage. Remember that generation has to exactly balance consumption. Generators of any type can not respond instantly - even the famous UK “TV pickups”, which Dinorwig is very good at managing, come on load over 5 minutes or so, rather than having NTP-synced clocks meaning the load comes on all within 10 ms.

What I can’t migrate are the services and functionality linked to that email address.

This is a giant fucking pain in the arse!!

I am a big fan of gmail plus addresses… eg user+variable@domain.com

Most services I have signed up for in the last few years use plus addresses with my custom domain email address. Odds of those getting migrated over to any other service??? I’m going for ZEROOOO

Re: Wot anti-vax?

What is it you want your vaccines to be like? Edward Jenner style where the festering pustules of an infected individual are broken open and said pus scratched into your skin? That is, after all, the traditional way.

You’re right about the mRNA vaccines. They aren’t traditional. They are waaaaay cooler and way better than traditional. But to say they are “genetic therapy” grossly misrepresents the role of mRNA in protein synthesis. It’s quite literally the messenger. A datagram. Not persistent storage. God forbid we should live on a planet where technological progress takes place… and additionally, I’m sometimes surprised to find Luddites hanging out on a tech website.

Nobody has to defend RMS’s choice to attempt to make excuses for dodgy shit with underage girls in order to use “his” software. We use science and technology every day which was created by questionable individuals and means. Nazi Germany invented the space rocket and the motorway. We use them quite happily.

So to complain that Big Tech isn’t allowed to disagree with his views seems a little selective.

It wouldn’t have been hard for him to keep everyone happy - acknowledge that the whole situation was shady as fuck, say he didn’t think his friend did anything wrong but he (RMS) knows a lot of people are upset about it, and say unequivocally that old men having sex with underage girls is wrong. But he didn’t do that.
