So few use Windows Phone, Microsoft can't be bothered: Security app is iOS, Android only

There is no statement regarding Windows Phone because the Windows 10 Mobile version of the Authenticator app has had this, for like, forever.

Even when scanning QR codes and using it instead of Google Authenticator for things like Github, to authenticate it uses Windows Hello and scans my Iris with near infra-red.

Entering passwords? Since when *yawn*

You'll probably find this is more about pimping out the conveniences of using the Microsoft eco-system over app and Google services.

Yeah, because you *have* to get the user to sign in...

.. or not.

Really they should be hashing the existing MD5 hashes with Argon 2i with a salt, or brypt and batch upgrading the existing passwords without waiting for users to sign in. Then to validate, perform the same two step hashing process. I guess they are just assuming as the email and MD5 pairs are known, rehashing won't make any difference.

All they need is a column with a versioning strategy number in the password table and they can start and stop the upgrading process whenever they want.

Your broadband speeds are up by 6Mbps, boasts UK watchdog Ofcom

BT aren't rubbish if you are lucky

On my new build estate, most people have < 2Mb ADSL which resyncs up and down for fun. I think think the slowest I saw as 32kbps upload at one point.

A lot of shouting at the CEOs office and I now have 300Mbps Infinity 4 (FTTP) with 30Mbps upload (its advertised as 20 but you actually get 30).

Actual speeds are 310.6 down and 33.1 up. I also live in the countryside so they ARE investing slowly via the local council schemes.

UK.gov finally promises legally binding broadband service obligation – by 2020

Top down

I managed to get FTTP in a rural new build where the ADSL was 1.5 Mbps and sometimes 64Kbps upload depending on whether the guy next door was power washing his car. The GPON is quite contended in the evening but I guess it's a future proof upgrade path over the agro I had with FTTC with REIN in the last house.

BT front line support are useless. You need to email the guys at the top to get things moving and then you realise how disconnected the internals of the BT giant are over if you go bottom up.

With things like 4K and IPTV becoming common, I guess we should be aiming for at least 40Mbps by 2020. That's a guaranteed 40, at peak times. Also, there needs to be legislation with regard to upload. BT were sneaky and were offering Infinity 4 with a 30Mbps upload easier in the year (hidden in the more info hover bubbles on the site). They silently dropped this down to 20Mbps and kept the same price.

Hopefully more cabinets will continue to pop up bringing VDSL2 / G.Fast to more people. Is wireless access an option for fulfilment like Boundless Communications in Preston? I can imagine that being used for the last few percent.

Prefer it to my Nexus 5

I got one of these last week and was plesantly suprised, once having done the OTA updates to the 9th September version, it was very stable as fast. I switched to Nova launcher and used it for navigation from Northwich to Leeds and back 4 days in a row, one day which I didn't even use the USB cable to charge it while in the car. It has lossless bluetooth support so my synced Plex albums played back great over the car system while Waze directed me around the traffic. GPS lock is nice and fast. It supports Miravision built in, which is like the nVidia Colour Enhancement panel for the Mediatek SOC, which makes the screen "pop" almost like AMOLED. Call quality is very good and it connected to 4G on the Three network without fuss. The weight was a concern of mine at first as I also bought a UMI Iron to try out. I sold the UMI Iron on as it had more "niggles" than the Elephone. It's been solid so far over two weeks usage.

Mine came with SuperSU installed but the device was not rooted. A simple press in the app completed the process and I've noticed no downsides. This let me create a symlink to the SD card for the Plex sync library as Plex are dragging their heals with supporting an SD card on Lollipop.

The fingerprint lock option is also good for corporate device policies which enforce a PIN; its much more convenient!
