CLIs are simply wizard at character building. Let’s not keep them to ourselves

I'm no expert

But have spent many hours attempting to fix a problem from within a terminal screen. Both in Linux, and in Windoze.

I guess it's a function of age, and also dealing with early versions of both OS's and their limitations.

These days, I am happy to click an app, and see what happens !

Merry Xmas to El Reg, and it's readers.

May you all have a splendiferous time with your family and loved ones.

Before I agree to let your app track me everywhere, I want something 'special' in return (winks)…

Australian cops, FBI created backdoored chat app, told crims it was secure – then snooped on 9,000 users' plots

Five Eyes

NZ cops had a field day as a part of their exposure to this crim scam.

As did Interpol, and other Euro cops.

Imagine it as a clever exercise by the FBI, whose scam may not have been legal in the US (entrapment etc.), but Aussie information passed back to the USA would have met the threshold of international information.

This how 5 eyes works in the spook area.

I love it :-)

Personally, I would be happy if Windows 10 could update without crashing at around 90%.

Yes, I have done every damn thing that they suggest, DISM, and on and on.

It becomes like watching paint dry.

My Linux triple boot efforts work just fine.

And they update like clockwork, without any problems.

MS might attempt to sell camels to Arabs, and fridges to Eskimos, but until their basic system actually

works, they may as well sell used cars.

And we all know how that works. !?!

They probably drank Corona. Which was originally the cheapest beer that students (being discerning beasts and budget conscious) could buy. These days it is "up market". Too funny.

Good luck with that lot

Why can't they stick some stop-go people in the cloud, same as on the roads.

Surely (and don't call me Shirley) it isn't that hard.

Oh well..........

Re: Guam?

A comment from a US Navy person from a little while ago, was Guam stood for Give Up and Masterbate. I have no reason to contradict this story.

Re: Optometrist Algorithm

You are describing the epitome of research. Shame on you. Sticking pins in stuff to see what happens is how scientists all over the globe function. Sadly, most of this is a complete failure, and the pins are never recycled. But, they do use acres of paper made from trees to publicise their efforts. My own research area is how to recycle old scientists. Despite their undoubted scientific skills, most couldn't turn a sausage on barbecue if they tried. I have this theory ( yet to be published) that scientists would serve us better by helping chefs to cook stuff normally, and to avoid using foreign words on menus. :-)

I am tired of taking the cat to the ATM.

Really, this whole nonsense is beyond belief.

Penis recognition should do it.

Although it could get problematical at the ATM.

Girls could use tonsil recognition, as they do most things with their mouths open.

Simple.

Thank God

I do not live in the US of A, the home of paranoia, and guns. The place where nonsense is a media thing, and everything else flows from there.

Good lord, get a life, and get a conscience.

Tried most distros

And couldn't be bothered.

If it took more than half an hour to work out what was happening, my eyes closed over. Ubuntu came along, and that was interesting, then it turned into a corporation. PCLinuxOS came along, and life was much easier. I have been there for almost 10 years. Quite happy with it all on the desktop.

Mobile phones are the greatest poverty-reducing tech EVER

Alan1kiwi

Disruption

Africa at large has gone from jungle drums to mobile phones in a flash.

They missed the dragging copper wires all over the place phase.

And that was the capital intensive part of the communications exercise.

There are numerous fibre cables linking Africa to the rest of the world.

Connecting them to a few wireless towers was pretty easy, and with

cellphones from China being throwaways these days, any African worth

his salt has global internet access.

They have made a huge leap in communications for minimal investment.

In a perverse way, they are taking greater advantage of the technology than

we are.
