I once flew from Madrid to London for a job interview. The outgoing flight had a delayed departure, we sat on the tarmac for the better part of an hour with no air conditioning and outside temperatures of 30C+.
Finally we took off and after 10 minutes the pilot announced a technical issue and that we would have to dump fuel and return to Madrid. We were met by fire engines on landing but nothing untoward happened. The issue was fixed - a faulty sensor on the cargo door.
Meanwhile I contacted the company that was interviewing me to advise of the delays and my interview was rescheduled for early in the afternoon and my return flight was also changed from early to late evening.
Arrived at Gatwick took the train to London and all I had to do was hop on one underground train to get to the office, but fate had another surprise in store for me. The line was closed because somebody had jumped onto the tracks at one of the stations
I eventually got to the interview - on time I might add and thought nothing else could go wrong.
My return flight was from Heathrow, when I got to the airport it had shut down because someone dressed in black with a rucksack had climbed over the perimeter fence and disappeared into the airport grounds.
No flight would leave until the police found him, which took several hours
I got home at 2am exhausted and I didn't get the job
