Spooky! Solar System's Planet NINE could be discovered in the next NINE years (plus one to six), say astroboffins

Re: destroyed already

Your right because of course the Greek's were around 4.5 billion years ago when it happened to see all this :) In Science we base things on proovable facts, not speculation. Do some research we can explain how/why these planets got to where they are with their current sizes.

Anwer this, if "planet 9" got "destroyed" then how can it be affecting the orbits of these KBO objects today?

In either case, when the solar system first formed there were hundred of small planets that eventually came together to form the existing planets that we see today.

Re: This pattern is entirely predictable

Would have to disagree with being able to block data slurping in Windows 10 Enterprise. Our workplace has trying to lock this down for about a month now and no matter what options are applied if you do a packet trace there is still data being sent back to Microsoft regardless.

Oh UK.gov. Say you're not for weakened encryption – Google and Facebook

Wrong debate

The government does not want to weaken encryption for all the obvious security reasons already provided.

They want a back door to get access to the encrypted information which is a quite different request.

They are also clueless about technology and believe that the only reason a back door cannot be provided is because the tech industry has not tried to produce such a system as opposed to it not being technically possible to do.

Is this really surprising?

In this day and age of ISP working with government agency's for security reasons, it's just not worth using any of the "major" ISP's. Fortunately for us techies, the politician's are cluless about IT security issues so they tend to go after the "big" ISP's here in the UK under the prmise that they will catch 80/90% of the traffic as most people use them and they tend to ignroe the smaller ISP's. Many of the sites the government has asked the big ISP's to block are freely accesible when using smaller ISP's.

I want to be the king of my castle

I think the problem is the split between mobile and home/desktop use. The mobile world has long since sought integration to make things easier to use, we accept this compromise. The mobile is, by definition, an insecure environment where privacy laws in effect mean nothing. Let alone being unable to use efective AV products as all mobile apps are sandboxed by default.

For home use though things are different, we want to have full control of our destiny and data. Giving this up is a huge invasion of privacy and very presumptious.

We already know that Microsoft actively scans outlook.com and have even banned certain users for having "questionable" content in their mailbox. How long is it before the start scanning for unlicensed software and media and acting accordinly.

Also what happens if you login to Win 10 with a microsoft account and they then close your account for whatever reason? You lose the ability to access your documents and data on your own person computer?

This is just too dangerous a road to go down. I have been on the bleeding edge of microsft operating systems, installing everything from Win 2000 to Win 8.1 on the day they are released (yes, even Vista.) With the state of play surrounding Windows 10, I plan to stick to Windows 8.1 for as long as possible.

Boffins nail 2FA with 'ambient sound' login for the lazy

MikeeMiracle

We need a more viable alternative to 2FA.

2FA should only ever be used for securing something important. The problem is it's those very same important things you need access to if you lose the device your using 2FA to connect to. Has anyone ever tried to regain access to their account after loosing their device? It's just too much of a pain to make worthwhile.

Some form is biometric device is far preferable.

What about 8.1?

I have been using Windows 8 / 8.1 since they came out and I have to say, going back to Windows 7 is like trying to run in water...7 is soo bloated and slow compared to Windows 8 / 8.1 that I can't figure out why anyone would still be using Windows 7 unless they had to.
