Re: How about a benchmark test?
Why? Who pays attention to a benchmark designed over a decade ago and does not take into consideration modern architectural designs?

A missed quarter doesn't make a trend but it'll be interesting to see how they follow thru. Their products margins are still very healthy relative to their larger competitors and they still grew, albeit at a smaller clip than previously, when their competitors are losing ground. They have a good kit, Nimble, but competition is tough and the market is fickle. I wish them well. I believe they are a good acquisition target
Is that it? Your analysis is that Nimble has too many resellers? Maybe because Nimble doesn't sell direct? Also how many Nimble VARs only sell Nimble? I'd imagine that number to be very low, maybe even non-existent. So why would there be "channel conflict" unless, of course resellers were vying in selling the product which would of course reflect how competitive the product is.
You're partially correct in that Pure did drop their trousers early on, according to their fillings, with a 29% margin in obvious attempts to gain footprint, which is understandable for a startup. According to Nimble's reports their margins are 67% so they don't appear to be giving their kit away thus Netapp's (and EMC's) significantly lower margins appear to be driven by weak product demand.
I used to be a big NetApp fan and I still like some things they bring to the table, but for the most part, NetApp's no longer on my radar. There are other technologies and vendors out there, simpler, easier, faster and less expensive. Do I miss some features with netapp? I do, but on the other hand my buck goes waaaaay further with my current vendors now that it did with netapp.
Sorry netapp. No more. People now have better choices.
