Linode: Back at last after ten days of hell

nilfs2
FAIL

Where is the cloud DR strategy?

The cloud provider has to be seen just like another datacenter, you need to have a DR site in case the main DC fails, if you plan to put a service on Linode you should also be planning to put a replicated copy on AWS, SoftLayer, Rackspace, or any other respectable cloud provider (please note the absence of Azure and Google after "respectable cloud provider").

Yep, many businesses here give you a better price if you pay cash, the bank charges the business every time they use the card machine, also, it leaves trace of the business receiving money so the taxman can catch the tax dodgers.

Don't blame the bad politicians

Blame the stupid people voting for them, most 'mericans know more about Kim Kardashian's life than they know about politics, they get what they deserve, the problem is that other countries get directly affected by who's in charge in the White House without the right of voting or giving an opinion, since most of the world's economy is dollar based.

Welcome to 3 years ago

I've been using Pi as thin clients for around 3 years, not with Citrix though, I'm running them with Microsoft's RDS, cheaper than running Citrix, Citrix only makes sense if you need an acceptable multimedia experience, which my users don't, they use a CRM and Office only. No issues so far, not even a dead SD card.

The problem with Flash is the same problem with Cisco and Microsoft

Drones are dropping drugs into prisons and the US govt just doesn't know what to do

nilfs2
Facepalm

No need for drones to smuggle drugs inside prison

A local prison made reports recently about people with slingshots smuggling things inside the prison as well as using messenger pigeons.

If there's one thing the prisoners have advantage over the custodians it is free time to come up with new ideas, keep the prisoners busy building and maintaining infrastructure, that way they will have less time to come up with clever ideas.

The average developer will work with the tools it was taught to use

The average developer will work with the tools it was taught to use, I've learned that most IT people are not eager to learn new ways to do stuff and/or are too lazy to do some research to find out that there are better ways to do things. When it comes to IT, the better tools are the ones you are never told of and are hidden under all the marketing blabber from the ones making the bad tools, you have to go out and look for them.

Efficient public transportation is the answer, but it is not likely to become mainstream; it's harder to show off your social status traveling on a train or a bus; for most people their vehicles are a sign of status.

"A Google engineer gave a talk about this specific issue..."

Can't agree more, the day automatic transmissions and isolated interiors became popular was the day that any moron could pick up the keys and "drive" a car. Driving a car as well as flying an airplane is not for everyone, it takes a person with focus and technical skills to do so, but car manufacturers have managed to put all the wrong people behind the wheel.

Re: Storage array business is a shrinking market

Storage capacity need WILL grow, but branded storage array market will not, it is shrinking already, ask NetApp, EMC, Dell, HP, IBM... All going downhill compared to a few years back. The cloud is stealing market share, and the big cloud service providers don't use branded storage arrays, they build their own.
