Moto fires BROADSIDE into the flagship phone's waterline with X Play and Style

Re: Interesting..

The original Moto G 3G was a bit rubbish for updates, Motorola held back updates due to Android fixes being made available but the 1st Gen Moto G 4G did get Lollipop, I passed my old Moto G 4G on to my 13 year old daughter who previously had a Galaxy S3 Mini and she loves the Moto G. I'm thinking I'll probably get another Moto G for my 15 year old daughter too to replace her Galaxy S3 Mini (and it means I can save a bit by dropping them both down to SIM only contracts :-D).

I've since upgraded to the Huawei Ascend G7 which isn't a bad phone for the money, but if I'd waited I'd have probably gone for the cheaper Moto X. I guess it's one of those things, you can wait and wait and something better is always round the corner :-)

Motorola's 5-incher finds the G-spot: Moto G 4G budget Android smartie

I'm in a similar boat, I bought the Moto G 3G based on last year's review but ended up having issues with it about 5 months into owning the phone due to a software update. Sadly the Motorola support was not very good and Phones4U didn't want to know until I made a bit of a fuss on Twitter.

I now have the 4G Moto G which while is a great phone it does lag quite often and I'm lucky if the battery lasts half a day, and I still haven't had the upgrade to Lollipop.

When the warranty runs out (in about 2 months) I'm probably going to root the phone and install something like Cyanogenmod although for my next phone I'm considering another manufacturer.

Saying that, a colleague of mine has the Mk1 3G Moto G and she's never had any issues with it. Perhaps some of it might be down to the apps I install.

Sony snags Spotify for streaming music to Playstation gamers

Re: Hyperbole

Well on the PS4 Spotify can run as a background app (I gather it's one of the new features of the new firmware that was released the other day) and sure enough, using Spotify Connect on my Android phone I was able to select tracks on the phone and play them through the PS4.

I haven't tried it with an actual game yet (tried it briefly before going to bed) but I'm guessing that if you have your phone next to you then you'll be able to use Spotify on your phone to skip tracks or select new tracks while in a game. I for one am looking forward to playing Watchdogs with Spice Girls as the soundtrack :-)

Neo Geo compatibility

The Neo Geo home consoles are compatible between regions, you'll find that Japanese consoles have things like red blood and gore whereas the US region console is more of a grey or white colour. Saying that there are mods available such as the Universe BIOS which can change the region of the console and even the type (it can turn a home console into an arcade MVS version or vice-versa).

The Neo Geo home console (the AES) is quite pricey and seems to hold it's value fairly well. Some of the rarer games can go into the thousands on eBay, especially as some games were very limited in release on the AES. However the arcade versions (the MVS) tend to be much more reasonable, although then you have to look at getting a Neo Geo MVS board and something to run it on (it's an arcade board so it'll need some sort of power supply, joystick and a way of connecting to your display... in Europe that's not so much of an issue as most older TVs have Scart inputs which will work, but I gather in the US and Japan you'd possibly need an RGB monitor or something to convert from RGB into component or composite video).

Other option for cheaper games is to get an MVS to AES console converter which allows you to use the arcade MVS carts on the AES console although they can also be pricey (without it the arcade carts won't physically fit in the home console, something I was gutted about when I was a Neo Geo owner back in the late 90s and looking for a cheap supply of games).

It's a great console and well worth the time and investment. Sure it can be emulated on a Raspberry Pi, PC or even a Wii, but there's something about having the actual machine with the massive carts that you just can't get with emulation.
