All this debate just shows the moderrn world has not caught up with technology. We'll look back in 25 years and think " What were we doing?" or "it was like the wild west back then" or similar.
You cant begin to see the effects on society of this mass / constant communication until decades later.
I'm not saying its a bad thing - it'll be fun to observe....
I'm not sure how a sample recovery would tell you anything. If the file is getting encrypted but remaining useable for months - how will restoring a backup change anything?
Admittedly I dont know how the malware could encrypt quietly - ie have the file still open normally , yet still be encypted when it wants it to be - unless theres an active transparent decrypter running - but this would only work if the files are only accessed by the one infected machine - which is not that likely in a commercial environment
I have a freeview hd vbox , and tv. I got all the hardware , and its all set up.
I dont watch HD though because swithing to hdmi1 takes about 2 seconds longer than switching to scart1 . also if i watch a hd channel its up in the 300's and far away from the non hd channels.
In actual quality , on a 32" tv its barely distinguishable
what they STILL arnet on the roads?? how many millions of articles have we had about these things being "coming soon" ? what wa that one a couple of days ago - millions of miles / 4 crashes ? I thouht that meant they were on the road - that whole 4 craches figure is even more pointless now i know it was on a test track . I could have done that with my scalextric set!
When these cars are on the road , and by road i mean the one near me that has a boozer on it , i'm not interested
Can someone explain to me the benefit of Contactless Payment?
It seems to me the only thing physically different is that your card is read by RFID ( or similar ) rather than putting your card into a reader to read the details.
To me - the time saved by waving your card AT a machine over putting your card IN a machine is absolutely neglible. The delay comes when you have to stare at the card reader saying things like "please wait" or "checking pin".
So it seems to me that the only time savings that have been made is that with the new lardy dah contactless system all security has been thrown out of the window in the interests of speed: no checking that account even exists ,and no checking the pin, hence the £20 limit. no wonder its faster.
couldnt they just do that for the swipe system too? stop bothering to check on prices under £30?
At least then you wouldnt be at risk of NFC pirates running around waving phantom paypoints at peoples pockets.
It does however mean that you probably lose the last 6 months or more of work , illustrating that ransomeware that bides its time is more of a pain in the arse. Imagine an I.T dept admitting they hadnt done a backup for six months after everything goes down. thats the situation - even if you have a working 12 month setup and month 7 is ok.
well if you're going to modify each individual copy then yes its easy , there would be many many ways available to "tag " each copy with intended recipient
I dont think the media companies bother doing that though.
You'd have thought it would be pretty easy in these days of automation. Eg just add a code to a few random frames.
1) You are of course correct.
2) Hardware spec. Garage PCs job is playing mp3s, streaming music from Planet Rock & other general browsing and running obd2 programs over bluetooth .I have a few elderly laptops lying around #1 struggling to run win 7 so i shut a few unneeded services and killed it. #2 I put ubuntu on it and was much more sprightly. Streaming Planet Rock no problem . Tried an mp3 and halfway through the track the machine had some sort of emblysm and i found myself wondering that the linux is for ctrl-alt-delete. "musicbox has suffered a blah blah blah ..."
3) I'll have a look for that python obd2 program. I doubt this machine has the power to run windows in a box if it cant run it natively. also i'd have to make sure the usb and bluetooth hardware was piped into the emulation , which would no doubt go wrong. Quite worried about getting usb & bluetooth working in the linux actually but Its probly not the first time its come up .
4) Maybe you should consider your own version theres possibly money to be made. People are still mostly under the delusion that if their engine light comes on its going to be a case of "Hooking it up to the big magic supercomputer at the main dealer and getting charged £100 upwards just to look at it" and that "cars are all computers these days not like they used to be" which is the equavalent of luddite office workers in the '70s and '80s saying "you'll never get me off the typewriter , at least i know where the tippex is with this"
The actual hardware interface for talking to your car is £7 on ebay
I once saw a phishing email purporting to be a bank. The author of which appeared unaware that he could lift the logo from the site to use in his scam - instead he settled for in incredibly poor photo of a leaflet on a desk to use as the logo.
In spite of this he did seem to have a botnet at his disposal
Hey thanks for the replies Pascal, AC, Hadvar & Localzuk
so we have :
"Theyll start inventing new laws" - cant they do that with and without the DNA etc?
"innocent until proven guilty will be reversed" - will it? + cant they do that with and without the DNA etc?
"kinky sex will become illegal" - cant they do that with and without the DNA etc?
"assumption that if you're on the database you've done something wrong" - well no, see dvla etc
"new laws invented re protesting and crowds etc" - cant they do that with and without the DNA etc?
Sorry but none of those reasons , to me , are more useful than the chance of getting my toaster back when some waste of oxygen smackhead breaks into my kitchen.
Obviously I can see that a regime like that would be paradise for a malicious dictator / totalitarian regime - but safeguards could be put in place.
I'm going to make another one of my regular appeals for some to tell me what the fucking problem is and express it in a way other than screaming "civil liberties"
Tell me how the cons will out way the pros.
If everyone had fingerprints , DNA and regular mugshots taken surely crime would be cut in half?
If some asshole thug in a pub decides to stick a glass in my face and then waltz out the door into anonymity and have a good laff about it. what a buzzin night. quality . kicked some fkers 'ead in too.
I'd like to think that if I was lucky enough to get some CCTV , or some DNA that that would be game over for the offender. As it is currently unless the investigating copper recognises perp thats it game over for the victim.
Maybe if really really serius it'll go on crime watch and the police will say "anybody recognise this guy?" which is akin to "If we'd have took prints dna & mugshots we'd know already - please help us we're pissing in the wind here"
