Lenovo spits out retro ThinkPads for iconic laptop's 25th birthday

Re: +1 for X220 mention

Similar here on an x201 - bought 3 yrs ago 2nd hand v cheap then totally forgotten until rediscovered a few months ago. SSD, another battery and boost to 8Gb and it's fine. A HD screen would be nice but probably not worth losing the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Lenovo should've tried to source a similar panel to the one on the surface pro and this 25 would've been irresistible.

Who wants a classic ThinkPad with whizzy new hardware? Lenovo would just love to know

Yes - but as a serious work machine not retro fashion

The high spec should include decent quad core cpu, lots of memory as an option - 32GB or more, 512GB+ of better than sata SSD, and that 16:10 screen at well above 1920x1200 resolution. Probably at the 15.6in to keep it reasonably portable. All the ports of course. Maybe a docking station with 10Gb ethernet. And the base cover / battery easily removed. Plus the best keyboard they can do and of course that strong case to house it all. A lot of that sounds like the W541 pepped up a little or a lot. But keeping the basic design while maintaining the current state of performance and not too eager to up the premium, it would have long term strong and steady sales beyond that of the saw tooth sales of fashion statements that chase Apple.

Precision - reduced configurability?

I'm attracted to the 3800/4800 Dell Precisions, but as with most Dells there're far fewer configurable options on the web site nowadays. And aren't these Precisions now down to just two memory sockets/16GB max?
