Why install anything?

You can get a Freemail certificate from Thawate which works out of the box with almost any e-mail clients. Even people stuck using IT managed computers can usually send encrypted e-mail with no more effort than receiving a signed e-mail from you.

Outrage not overstated

We, the consumers, have watched as misguided companies have treated us worse and worse. I think it entirely appropriate that a game have 1000 or 2000+ 1-Star comments to vent the outrage at this practice. Why should downloaders have a superior version whilst the paying customers are treated as suspects?

Anything that loads software on my computer that can destabilize the system for the purpose of limiting my fair use of it is justly rubbished in the reviews. I just wished it happened more often.

The tape with the red label says it all

Take a close look at the brand name in the tape with the red label: "SUCK". What other comment is necessary?

Company Apologists: is accessing Gmail under false pretenses OK?

The article stated that the company detectives access the employee's Gmail account as part of the investigation. I am going to make the grand assumption that they did not go and ask the employee "May we read all of your email?" before then did this, and obtained his login credentials via interception. Monitoring communication over business equipment is one thing, but to use the information to log into a private account under false pretenses is quite another thing. When they logged into his Gmail using his captured login credentials, they crossed the line. If they wanted to read his Gmail, they should have been required to obtain a court order. There is something out there called "due process" which is anathema to you company fan boys, but essential to a civil society.

Not a test of emotional intelligence

A big part of poker is that it is a game of deception and of inference. Many good poker players win not because they have a perfect knowledge of the odds, but because they can read the other players. Conversely, they can also deceive the other players playing. “Trash talking” and taunting the other players (to put them off balance) can also be a big part of the game. Since the article states that players will be unable to communicate with each other, the only “information” that will be available will be the cards. With that being the only information available, the edge is to the computer as it can impute probabilities vs. expected payouts with perfection. What this experiment ends up measuring will not resemble a real game of poker.
