Tesla’s Autopilot losing track of devs crashing out of 'leccy car maker

Re: Autonomous driving is months, years, or decades away

Yes, but think of the applications to warfare! Perhaps that’s the plan…and how we get to the dystopian future of Mad Max. It’s all brought about by Tesla’s self-driving cars being put on the road too soon. Note those cars that burst into flames also will replace some of the incendiary armaments used in war zones.

Re: Of all places

they also educate people on how not to blow their own heads off (assuming that isn't the idea) and educate folks who need it in self-protection. Believe it or not, there are many, many people not living in large cities with dangerous animals or people around and the closest law-enforcement officer(s) at least 30 minutes away.

Re: Of all places

Ummm...they have snow plows. The freeways are passable much of the winter. The Donner party had conestoga wagons and no heaters.

Reno is not really that far away from the SF area given it's a popular venue for gambling.

There are folks living in the mountains and in the central valley that need firearms to deal with coyotes or mountain lions. In the sierra nevada mountains, while living there, it was common to encounter ne'er-do-wells who counted on the sheriff being 30-50 minutes away.

Re: Of all places

explosives? Knives? Acid? Automobiles? Semi-trucks?

Probably they should all be outlawed.

Re: Of all places

We should probably outlaw knives. And explosives. I hear they're dangerous as well. Acid attacks are on the rise. Probably we should outlaw acid as well.

Oooh! The end is nigh! Based on opinions.

A bit like John Ralston Saul's definition for "Dictionary": "Opinion presented as truth in alphabetical order."

And blindness

There was some published information some time back about eye damage as well due to conditions being equivalent to glaucoma.

As long as there are wheelchairs for the guide dogs and all of the panels have braille, we should be able to colonise the red planet and leave all of our problems behind...oh. Wait. We'd be there and we'd be in the same boat.

WTF?

Re: Don't understand the rage

Very strange. My usual practice is to not buy the thing when I don't approve of the way the marketing wonks have set the prices. That's why I wouldn't buy an apple watch. Nor would I buy a BMW.

But then I figure it's their choice to set their prices the way they want and the buyers are free to spend their money, eyes-open, the way they want.

Sometimes these sorts of articles are invitations to the shared outrage-fest of flaming-group entertainment at the expense of someone else.

Or, in short, "who gives a steaming shite?". Don't buy it if you don't want it. Must be a slow news day at the Reg.

A very good example of first-world problem creation

The FAQs are a disaster.

1. Someone else can start your profile for you.

2. you can't remove your profile.

Anyone who's had even a mildly rich and varied existence would be likely to see the serious problems with this. And those who have not, those who have lived a sheltered life or who are too young to know better, are going to be open to quite a bad time. I think we can see that those creating the company may be in the latter category.

Doesn't matter if they make money on it or not, this seems terribly ill-conceived.

Stylus?!

I think if you look up Wacom Cintiq 13HD touch display, you'll get a better comparison to what they're giving.

Even the iMovie edits were being shown with fingers. They've just added a pressure and tilt-sensitive digitizing tablet to a big iPad. I think this one's going to excite digital artists.
