CrowdStrike file update bricks Windows machines around the world

Mission Accomplished

Those systems are secure. The security wonks have finally created a system that cannot be hacked.

Here we go again. And again. Musk threatens to pull Twitter, SpaceX out of California

I thought you covered tech, this is nothing but a tabloid article. I expected better from the register.

Nearly 20% of running Microsoft SQL Servers have passed end of support

Just Maybe

Just maybe the support windows should be longer and not dictated by a marketing upgrade cadence. I should not have to mention to this crowd that enterprises have many enterprise grade apps that need to be tested and remediated when a core component like sql is upgraded. Not to mention MS problem with expiring features that vendors are using in the newer versions of OS, and sql. There is no, none, zero reason sql cannot have a longer life except to drive profit to MS.

Twitter faces existential threat from world's richest techbro

Twitter rainforest is no Utopia

To read this article you would think that twitter is a brilliant utopia of free speech and ideas bouncing around harmoniously. Nothing could be further from the truth. When you suppress the speech of 78 million people and ban people for their ideas because they do not match yours speech is not free anymore. What you are left with is censorship in the ugliest form. It is akin to what the best dictators have done when someone disagreed with them. Intelligent people realize that truth lies somewhere between two sides, but twitter blocks one side entirely. For what reason? Now that is a question I would like the twitter board to answer.

Traffic lights, who needs 'em? Lucky Kentucky residents up in arms over first roundabout

Roundabouts are a game of chicken

Roundabouts are dumb. It makes a game of chicken out of an intersection. Our state is bought into the group think and has been installing them. No one likes them and for vehicles with trailers or for delivery they are a nuisance. It might be OK for europe where everything is cramped into small areas but the US is not built that way and these are not helping.

Parler games: Social network for internet rejects sues Amazon Web Services for pulling plug on hosting

Re: Let's play a Free Speech game.

Paler did not advocate violence. You should know your facts before posting.

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

― George Orwell

Not all clouds are fluffy

It is amazing to me that companies still put their mission critical applications is a private cloud like AWS, Azure, etc. You are hoping that the other party will honor their agreement and if they don't? Well you get the problem Parler has. It used to be that politics was not an issue in contracts, but now it seems that the NWO is canceling all who do not agree with their world view.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Windows to become emulation layer atop Linux kernel, predicts Eric Raymond

Interesting Idea

Interesting Idea however the biggest advantage windows has over linux these days is Active Directory. Yes Samba can do some of it, but it is always multiple releases behind and the tooling is weak. I hope I see it happen one day and I can move off M$ for good. As of now many mission critical apps we use have COM components which is not supported on linux either.

What are your thoughts.

Microsoft reorg places Surface evangelist Panos Panay as boss of Windows too – report

There goes productivity again

Just like in the days of Windows 8, brace for more adware and useless OS's coming from MS.

We need a windows alternative badly!

Maybe its Linux and Wine, but that on a users desktop? It still has a ways to go to be ready for the office especially in troubleshooting app errors.

Come to Five Guys, where the software is as fresh as the burgers... or maybe not

Re: I'm sure they can afford support

For a cheeseburger and reg fries its $10 US. About 25% more than the bean burgers from McDonalds or Burger King, but its real meat. Not to mention the amt of fries you get is huge and taste fantastic. So when I feel like a cardiac event I go get me one.

We're afraid it might be terminal: Tesco top-up box looking less than tip-top

Serious UPTIME

That XP box has been running flawlessly for decades. the ix's have nothing on the older MS tech, the newer bunch of wares want to reboot every 6 months, sometimes even more often.

Space Force is go, go, go! Because we have a child as President of the United States

Space Force

Is that envy I hear in your voice? It wasnt until earlier this week that we even knew the UK had an astronaut, and guess what? She lives with aliens. We will create the space force... To infinity and beyond!

Re: Snouts in the Trough

LOVE IT. That costs nothing and there is truth being told. You know who these idiots are owned by.

Re: 'if you’re doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result'

By that logic there is no bad idea and the crooks in washington would spend the USA into oblivion faster than they are doing now.

Not everything needs or should have a government solution!

Re: "Putin's cleptocracy and cronyism succeeded where communism failed"

Soviet Communism "Succeed"? For whom? No one but the top soviets were living any dreams. No freedom of speech lest you become like the 10s of millions in a mass grave.. Not what I call success.

Scary thing is with todays tech China is proving that the "thought police" can become real.

ReactOS 'a ripoff of the Windows Research Kernel', claims Microsoft kernel engineer

Re: Precedents already set?

As the article stated ReactOS was started decades before M$ released the research kernel. I do not think M$ would win this one and time better spent fixing their own desktop fiasco.

M$ is abandoning the desktop

M$ is abandoning the desktop for the cloud. Why does it care? Is the legal team bored and looking for something to do? Maybe M$ needs another class action or to be split up.

Bill Gates declined offer to serve as Donald Trump's science advisor

He might need extended salary, and a salary manager to help him access it.

Hotel California Class Agreement!! That was awesome and very accurate with the agreements of M$, AWS, and Google.

Internet giants removing 70 per cent of reported hate speech, crows European Commission

Hate Speech VS Freedom of Speech

It seems that the people of the EU have had yet another freedom taken away from them, or said more appropriately decided for them. It seems the EU has taken it upon themselves to decide for everyone what is acceptable speech and what is not.

Who asked them to do that? The best and freest countries allow opinions from all points of view not just the ones that the government agrees with.

Re: Yes, and?

We have a border? with mexico? where? Is it north or south of Phoenix?

Re: "The American worker has never had a stronger advocate than President Trump,"

Any idiot can give away other peoples tax money. It takes a real leader to put things in place so the free giveaways are not needed anymore.

Smart Move

Most developed countries have a system like this, even Mexico has a system like this and I would not call them a developed country.

Many countries in Europe did as well until Merkel became your leader and put uneducated muslims at the front of the line.

Stick to business

These idiots should stick to their business. It is obvious that they are taking the intellectually easy route and buying into the consensus. That is just not how science is done. Have you ever heard of the consensus of gravity, or the consensus of relativity? No there are proofs that must stand up to peer review and be repeatable. Man caused global warming has non of this. An intellectually honest person needs to look at all of this, do their homework, and not be swayed by public opinion.

It's a question worth asking: Why is the FCC boss being such a jerk?

Bigger Government is never the answer

If your goal is a more free internet as a conduit of ideas you do not want more government agencies taking control of want has been a free resource without them. That is something the socialists do not understand, less government = more freedom for the citizens.

Minnesota, Illinois rebel over America's ISP privacy massacre, mull fresh info protections

Always growing government

Minnesota and Illinois have never missed a chance to step on individual freedoms and grow their state government any chance they can get. The duplicate protections Trump got rid of were already included in laws by the FTC. That is not good enough for these two Marxist states, they want more control over people that live in their state and the companies that operate there. Can we expect any more from two states that advertise the generous welfare benefits each has, in each others state. With the goal to get more residents dependent on the government? There is a reason why companies are leaving this area.

Force employees to take DNA tests for bosses? We've got a new law to make that happen, beam House Republicans

Re: @Ian Michael Gumby

ACA was a democrat only program. Hated by all who had employer healthcare as their premiums went up 1.5 to 2.5 times more than previously for less useful coverage.

Protect your DNA

The only way to protect your DNA is not to give it to any employer that asks for it. Work 1099 for these low class vultures if you have to.

Employer health coverage was a great way for employers to attract and retain talent. Now with this ACA abortion there is no options since the goal of the ACA was to force out private insurance so all that was left was the government. Go back to the days of Employer sponsored healthcare with competition and watch premiums drop back to the $500/month for a family instead if the 1500+/month now.

Microsoft nicks one more Apple idea: An ad-supported OS

Excellent. As a life long MS developer, I did the same thing. Cannot stand the decisions MS has made since Bill left and the os is degenerating into crap ware run by the marketing department.

NASA swerves serious cash cuts – but Earth climate probes, asteroid snatcher face axe

NASA back to space

Too much money was wasted on redundant climate change studies. Nasa can focus on what it was created to do and that is space exploration. This is good news for real science and not so much for the worshipers of man caused global warming.

Frustrated by reboot-happy Windows 10? Creators Update hopes to take away the pain

Dysfunctional Micro$oft

This is one of the reasons I left M$ os's and went to linux. I am a life long windows user and have not agreed with the OS moves since windows 7. I had 2 VMs runnung on my Win 10 box when M$ decided to reboot, these VMs did not come back, corrupted much processing data lost. This combined with M$ efforts into Linux made me jump ship. Why run Linux on windows, just get the real thing so thats what i did. Linux Mint since the 1st of the year it just works, and no more M$ dysfunctional thinking for me.

Happy 2nd birthday, Windows 8 and Surface: Anatomy of a disaster

SHOW ME THE MONEY! Ballmer on Amazon: 'They're not a real biz, they make NO cash'

Missed the point

Unlike Microsoft that Balmer was well on his way to ruining. Amazon has been brilliant in their use of cash. They have been able to generate billions, yet managed to keep any profit off the books. Taxes the pay are nil. Try that Microsoft it is a very delicate balance to achieve and Amazon has become quite expert at it.
