The C64 version was epic, albeit with a rather zoomed out looking view. The black background added to the eerie feeling.

It was Commodore who made a proper computer that was affordable (the PET); Commodore boss at the time, Jack Tramiel, coined the phrase "computers for the masses not the classes." It was also a Commodore engineer named Chuck Peddle who helped the two Steve's get the Apple I working in the first place, and if you look closely at that picture there's a Commodore/MOS 6502 chip at the heart.
If it wasn't for Visicalc appearing on the Apple II before the PET, we'd probably be remembering Apple in the same way we talk about Oric, Coleco and Sperry.
