Microsoft's Edge to flush Adobe Flash in Windows 10 Creator’s Update

Re: Just what will all those advertisers do...

Poor VMWare. They spent one hell of a lot of cash on trying to perfect FlashPlayer before someone told them that they were trying to do the software equivalent of spraying perfume over untreated sewage.

Now, if only someone would tell Comcast and Brightcove that their entire media admin UIs are about to blow up ...

Exchange rate? Apple don' need no stinking exchange rate.

Even parity with the dollar would make most people* say 'WTF', but charging £1 over the US dollar price is a bit off, isn't it? Oh, and OTE headphones do not fall out of your ear which I find the (wired) Apple earphones do on a regular basis.

How do you illegally tell the government that you bought a dildo? "Psst, you know those sex thingies that women use? Yeah? I just bought a whole truckload of them. Wanna buy one?"

'stereotypical' even, unless we are indeed talking about 1970's Amstrad stereos.

Why not have every single device IoT enabled? That way the incoming Russian US government gets to know everything about everyone, including what setting bored Colorado housewives set their 'personal' devices to for maximum satisfaction. Of course the humiliation in knowing that your bank was DDOS'd by several million dildos would be unbearable for some.

Microsoft says LinkedIn will make Trump, Brexit, voters feel great again

macjules

Re: What will LinkedIn actually do then?

Once upon a time I would have wanted a drag of whatever MSFT were smoking as it was always good stuff. Nowadays I am not so sure. I rather dislike emails from MSFT crowing about their analytics of Office365 and telling me that I was 32.83% productive in the past week, with 3.7 other 'team members'.

I can only presume that LinkedIn will form a part of that. Sadly I should expect that all MSFT's acquisition of LI means is that badly written spam from IT recruiters will no longer end up in junk mail where it belongs.

Apple Watch sales go over a cliff: Down 2.8 meellion per quarter in a year

macjules

Especially a watch that can only last 18 hours without a charge, presumably since Ive wanted to redesign the iDay to be just 18 hours plus a 2 hour charge time. As a former fanboi there would have certainly been a time that I would have rushed to buy the watch, regardless of it looking like a late 1970's digital watch and being over 3 times the thickness of even those monstrosities.

The major turn-off for me was not so much the chunkiness, the awful charge time or the fact that I just did not need a wrist job as a extension of my phone. No, what did it for me was Apple trying to tell me how I should wear their watch: too close to Wonko The Sane and instructions for using toothpicks for my liking.

I get sick of the standard response to "I'm in I.T." being, "Oh, can you fix my computer then?". I gleefully got my revenge on someone at a party recently after he posed that question, when I asked "What do you do then?". His response was, "I'm the managing director of a division of Rentokill.", to which I replied (and I had been saving up for something like this), "That's great, all our drains and gutters need clearing out and I think we might have mice in the basement, when can you come round and sort that out?"

Strange how he then said that he could espy a colleague of his and just had to go and have a chat with him.

Re: You don't mention...

I don't see how this can be accomplished on iOS at all. They state that the username/password is stored as a cleartext token on the device: is this just for Android? On iOS all usernames and passwords are stored in the Keychain, so not as accessible as these guys make out. Checked the Tesla.app and yes it does use something akin to SSKeychain.h, SSKeychain.m, SSKeychainQuery.h and SSKeychainQuery.m

Don't know enough about Android to comment but it can not be that dissimilar to the iOS system, can it?

UK Charging points

Given that Tesla have now set up charging points across just about all of Western Europe (excluding Western Span and Portugal for some reason), allowing you to drive from Malaga to Narvik without worrying about recharging points, perhaps Ford et al should be either adopting their standard or creating an adaptor that allows the Tesla charge point to be used in their cars.

What will probably happen instead is that we will just see lots of different chargers at various service stations on our motorways until such time as a gutter dweller politician can not get his ministerial limo charged and pushes for an EDM on a unified charging standard.

Will AI spell the end of humanity? The tech industry wants you to think so

macjules

Less of Dark Star methinks ..

For example, imagine that the US nuclear arsenal during the Cold War was under control of an AI to thwart sneak attack by the Soviet Union. Due to no action of the Soviet Union, a nuclear reactor meltdown occurs in the arsenal and the power grid temporarily collapses. The AI’s sensors detect the disruption and fallout, leading the system to infer an attack is underway.
