Supermicro's macro Microblade: That chassis is... huge

Hide the ear plugs...

I use to run about 140 blades and when management use to plan to come up and have a nose round I would log into the management modules and turn all the fans up to full and hide the ear plugs... was a very good way of keeping them out of my hair... :-)

UK's internet spy law: £250m in costs could balloon to £2 BILLION

mupets...

So the plan to collect every domain you connect to on you home broadband could very easily be overloaded... a few thousand user and a list of every domain out there, could make and DB explode...

More mindless tech bullshit for politicians... who have no grasp of how tech works.. why not spend the money on the police... and not cut from it...

Private cloud is NOT dead – and for one good reason: Control of data

Head in clouds...

I think that Private clouds have an important role and some companies are taking major risk putting all there data with another company that could turn them off.. Their business will have a long battle to get there data back...

The other problem with cloud systems is if there was a fabric breach... it would be tantamount to having the keys to the data centre... the more shared the cloud is, the higher the risk...

Its when you dumb ass management who buy into bullshit from sales people without understanding the risks...

UK national mobile roaming: A stupid idea that'll never work

Backhaul Burnout...

There are times I would like to see is how much of the backend backhaul network is maxed out and how much of the RF TDM networks are maxed out... I get the distinct feeling that some of the mobile networks poor performance is down to backhaul networks being maxed and not the RF TDM...

How the FLAC do I tell MP3s from lossless audio?

HiFi Hype...

Firstly CD's do have error checking "CIRC encoding" so you can get bit perfect copies, try dBpoweramp CD Ripper...

One thing you have to be very careful of is Psychoacoustics and how much the sales man is pleasuring your ego to get his commission... it also turns into how shiny it is...

the acoustics of the room and placement of the speakers can greatly effect the response of your system. so if your going to spend £50k on speakers make sure you spend £20k on your listening room...

also any white or pink noise from you pc will create Psychoacoustics Masking effects... (This effect is used in lossy compression like MP3)

also consider the time domain between different drivers eg tweeter and woofer and separate sub...

and after you have had a massive nerd out enjoy your music... :-)

I have had the privilege to be behind the odd console with some of the best monitoring around... and yes it does make a difference but then it gets mastered... and as someone said above music is mastered to the listener to help it sell...

if you want to burn some cash get yourself some sexy studio monitors... my Genelec 8260's do well...
