So much this, I used to turn on cookies and go to a specific site and get all those cookies set up in place, and then afterwards disable all cookies, no new cookies come in, but the old cookies work fine and let's me be logged in to particular sites. In Vivaldi, even if you save cookies for a site, turning them off in the settings disables even existing ones, no site remembers you while disabled.
As for blocking content, there something similar while being entirely different, at the bottom right you have the icon that looks like "< >", this contains a filter called content blocker which kinda-sorta works like old opera (at least for the annoying ads etc).

Fuck I hate AV so much, I used to be 'responsible' if one can call it that for securing smb with antivirus and keeping it updated, across hundreds of machines remotely, and every once in a while you'd still get phonecalls from various bosses (it's always the fucking bosses for some reason) about how their machines did weird shit, and turns out *other* antivirus found what our own antivirus didn't find, and of course they want answers, 'How could this happen!?' BECAUSE IT FUCKING DOES, ALL THE GODDAMN TIME, but diplomatically there was only the platitudes you could give, 'this particular virus was a new variant and hadn't been innoculated against', bullshit of course.
In my experience, at least the computers that I were exposed to, none of them should have been running windows at all, most of them just did basic shit anyway which would have worked just as well running linux, even if one was not a savvy user, and the cases where win was needed it should have been only running as a vm inside a linux host, a particular state saved on the image and when done using it wipe the image and use a new copy of it for next time, it would have saved so much fucking energy and money for everyone involved. AV I hate you so much.

I've been using vivaldi for a while now and while it's decent, the memory it gobbles is ridiculous; I run Linux so ram usage has never been much of an issue, thus long ago this computer was built with 4G of ram, plenty for everything including gaming, and it's been enough up until this monstrosity came out. I don't know if there's a fix for the memory hogging insanity of blink-based browsers, up until I started running vivaldi I've never felt I even needed more ram, and now I have to shut it (vivaldi) down whenever I start rocket league, to avoid the inevitable churning of swap that would otherwise ensue. Anyone have some spare dd3 sticks? :(

I reject everything about your post. I have been sitting here trying to write out a reply but your post is so insane that nothing sounds like a good response.
So let me state again for the record: Blizzard can suck a bag of dicks. Aww, according to you now the poow widdle devewopers are now feeling butthurt and will therefore not support Linux. I reject your round-about logic and I reject this fallacy. If Blizzard were to release a game for Linux tomorrow, you'd have a surge of Linux users buying it. But they will not, and not because they feel like no Linux user wants to be their friend, they just don't fucking care about Linux users... unless they try to play a Blizzard game using wine, then they really really care, and they will ban your ass, and they will continue to ban Linux users using Wine. So yeah. Fuck em.
If and when developers want to release their games for Linux, I and many others like me are very welcoming and we support them by purchasing their titles, we report bugs and help out wherever we can. We love them for it. And we play the hell out of their games.
Meanwhile, you sit in a corner on the interweb victimizing yourself and ask that I abandon running Linux on my desktop because poor you, you have no choice but to run win. Well sir, I have run Linux exclusively since 2k1, and I have gamed and gamed and gamed, and I will continue to game with ever more games becoming available. It is a great time for Linux gaming, and like most significant times in history, it is happening whether you want it to or not.

I'm sure they're not. For me, I am thoroughly enjoying a quite awesome and extensive range of titles from indie to AAA in my Linux gaming.
But Overwatch? I don't get why you'd mention that. I'm going to assume that you know Blizzard hates Linux and will never make a game for it. Blizzard is not even in the running. The only game they have a Linux client for is world of warcraft, and while that's been available (internally) for over 10 years now, it's not something they'll ever let the public touch. So fuck em. Plenty of other fish in the vast sea =)
Meanwhile, I bet I have and play more games than you ever will in your lifetime dude! ;) But you do you man! Carry that torch of hatred in your little corner, it will keep you warm as you sit down to complain about how others can't enjoy all the games you potentially could, yet never will, because of raging on the internet ;)

Kodi and Mythtv aren't really equivalents though, myth was always focussed on capturing tv, providing recording functions and tv-guide and programming, what you've come to expect from tivos and dvrs/pvrs etc, whereas kodi is more about playing back an existing library of local/remote files. There is overlap between the two, but at least in my opinion they are each individually defined, and both have their place in different use-cases.

That sounds a bit harsh. I've been using a keyboard-driven tiling window manager since mid 00's (ion) and I could never go back to handling window management manually anymore. But I can see why some people wouldn't take to it, tiling/floating is definitely subjective - but why don't they just add a setting to set the root window into floating if that's your choice? Or add another workspace which has the floating property, while you keep the tiling property on the root? There are occasional programs that just don't want to co-operate in a tiled/fullscreen environment, and a floating workspace is perfect for that.
It seems like a missed opportunity to impose your will for either one or the other, but then again, microsoft's imposing will is why I left that world behind years ago ;)

I asked the same question in a previous skype article, I got no answers but 10 downvotes (for some reason, go figure). I haven't tried brosix myself yet but I'd be eager to hear your opinion of it. Same. Smoked 14.5 years, tried to quit in that time but was a complete wreck, and still went back to smoking. Heard of ecigs, researched it for a week, ordered my kit, and have been smoke free since I got my kit in the mail, 29 dec 2010. Don't really vape anymore either, but it's fun to take out on occasion.

Hi, going to assume you're talking about bash_completion and not just auto-completing filenames, the more advanced bash_completion is made available by the package bash-completion, it sounds to me like that package just isn't installed, so first step is to check that. If it is installed and you still don't have it enabled then we're unfortunately going to have to suggest you check your bash resources; check your ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc file if they contain:
if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ] && ! shopt -oq posix; then
. /etc/bash_completion
fi
That's the default one anyway, I mean you don't really need that whole if statement, you just need to source /etc/bash_completion really. Anyway, to get bash_completion going it's one of those two steps (or possibly both) that are giving you crap, and that's how you fix it.
If I have misunderstood you and your problem isn't really with bash_completion, but rather just basic tab-hitting to auto-complete filenames and hitting tab itself has stopped working, may I suggest that you might have befucked your ~/.inputrc - this file needs to be copied from /etc into your home and then modifications added afterwards, if you just add a single modifier, _all_ other bindings will stop working, the file needs to be complete.
If this still isn't the case I'd be rather interested in hearing more about your issue, sounds like an interesting puzzle (:

It might never end, but hopefully time will marginalize it.
The idea of "We exist without skin colour" regardless which words express it are used a lot but mostly by white people, well meaning by all accounts. The problem is that for a loooong time societies have been built on racism, and while societies try to move away from the overt racism (like slavery, apartheid), the racism is still systemic and deeply rooted in all institutions, and in all likelihood will never vanish entirely.
So the phrase, "We exist without skin colour", for a well meaning white person is self evident, it's obvious and true. Absolute truth.
But for a person of colour, that same expression might be met with "Then why does the police keep pulling me over? Why do people keep giving me suspicious looks in the supermarket? Why did you give the job to this incompetent tosser when I was more than qualified and better suited?"
So if we exist without skin colour, why does skin colour still make people judge others especially negatively? It's clearly a more complicated question, but it's sad that it has to be, you can't control what other people do (or at least you shouldn't try - bad things happen then), you can only control yourself, so that is where change must first take place.

I'm not sure, it depends on how thoroughly pissed off you are; It's actually a lot harder for a windows poweruser to switch to Linux than it is for a complete newbie to learn because there's just so much ingrained expectance (of how things work). But fury with a bit of stubborness is exactly what will get you there.
I don't know what process will be best for you, but I can tell you what I did on my day of fury - I decided that I'd either learn to use Linux (with no prior knowledge) or stop using computers altogether. I saved what little was of actual import, text files and pics mostly then blew away all windows and went into the deep end, I very specifically did not want any remaining windows anywhere, just in case I would feel something was too hard and come crawling back. I'd push through my ignorance and learn.
I installed Debian, and probably fucked up the first install, so I installed it again. I did not go for a full install but rather a barebones install and then manually picked and chose what I wanted, I decided that for the first week I wouldn't even bother with X, I'd learn what I could about the console, and learn how to achieve in console what I'd normally expected to need a gui for.
I learned about the programs in /bin and /usr/bin, and some of the sbin ones, I learned how to use man on the commands, or just add --help after each command, and I just built my knowledge from the ground up.
After a week I installed X, I didn't understand X so I didn't want the packaging system to do it for me (to be fair, at that point it felt like the package system was far more frail especially when dealing with X), so I downloaded separate files from XFree86 and ran the shellscript to set it up. I don't advise using this method today for X ;)
Anyway, turns out that Linux is pretty easy to learn, you need to shed some preconceived notions and stop expecting things to work like in win, the struggle lies in learning "how to learn".
But once you have that down, how to search duck/google, once you get the basics under you, it becomes pretty straight forward, everything functions in a very logical manner so you can predict events and identify problems in any part of the chain on your own, and there are always many ways to solve a problem and only your own imagination is what stops you.
Finally, for me it's been worth it, I have a lot of fun running Linux and I feel like I'm far more creative than I ever was when I ran win, it levelled up my skills in critical and logical thinking. The only problem I have with Linux now, is that there are more games on steam that I want to play, than I have time to play.
