Remember that clinical trial, promoted by President Trump, of a possible COVID-19 cure? So, so, so many questions...

Re: I know a couple things about clinical trials.

... ffs, have a gin and tonic (not that diet crap) and relax... just sayin'... I just returned from a visit to Thailand to celebrate our 5th anniversary and am now required by my employer (municipality) to "quarantine in place" for 14 days... lovely! I get to have lunch at home and oh by the way, I have no symptoms, feel fine in spite of all of the opportunities for exposure but have to say that my wife and I stayed only at the resort and took all PRACTICAL precautions... as I live in Arizona this is our pollen and flu season... people freaking out about "sniffles" and such need to stop watching "panic television" and assess their symptoms compared to normal seasonal symptoms... but there's no profit in that is there...?

Saying this because I can, and other local business owners (including a local grocery store owner) agree with this take on things...

WTF?

Are there really so many people so stupid...

... in a word, yes.

Didn't some of us see this coming 15-20 some-odd years ago? I seem to remember back in the days of 33.6kb modems and early iterations of Alexa that this was a hot topic of discussion... just sayin'

Re: Everyone Is At It

REALLY? Well then, allow me to be perhaps not the first but certainly not the last to welcome you to "The New World Order" as it were... perhaps a lower-tech Garmin product like a Garmin Rino 120 may be more suitable... just a suggestion from an old guy...

WannaCry kill-switch hero Marcus Hutchins collared by FBI on way home from DEF CON

...no worries...

I am a US citizen, yet when I recently attempted to purchase a small and compact firearm (for personal protection purposes), was met with a "Delayed" status from the FBI (background checks are mandatory btw), suggesting that I am something less than a law-abiding citizen. Upon further inquiry, my status has been upgraded to "Appeal" which to me indicates some further interest into my background. Aside from the compulsory DUI from 20 years ago (current age withheld), I have recently served overseas (read Middle East) and posses a SECRET security clearance, which is still valid as far as I know... so I'm thinking that there's some newbys in the AGENCY that are maybe trying to make a name for themselves... just sayin'... FFS???

Lester Haines: RIP

ibchristian

... way too soon...

Lester, you will be dearly missed... so I'll raise a pint and a bacon sarnie in your honor sir.

My condolences to his family, Katarina and Matt et al. He was the bright point in so many days of drudgery while working overseas, and like so many have stated previously was the reason I kept coming back to El Reg...

... ditto this thread. I bought a Sager P370M back in 2012, took it to Afghanistan and used it there for 3.5 years... then back home and it's still ticking along quite nicely. Yes, it was quite an investment (4k+) but I've yet to find something it can't do.

It was "bleeding edge" in terms of hardware at the time, so I'm sure there's better specs available now. What I also very much like is that I can change up hard drives/SSD's as I need... I went from a 128gb SSD boot drive to a 512gb SSD with absolutely no issues...

WTF?

Re: Strange

... and watch out for the "Optional" KB2952664 update... it looks as though it preps your 'puter for Win10 by installing loads of tattleware as well as some system mods... nasty stuff I'd say!

Re: Now you're talking

Tom sounds like he has the hot setup. Lester, I would seriously consider his offer... El Reg has more fans in the states then you may realize... just sayin'!

Re: Ah the joys of an open market...

... seems an opportunity lost for Spain to share in the sheer joy (not to mention scientific research) of the LOHAN effort...??? Oh well, New Mexico tends to be lovely this time of year, or at least in a few months from now... and then there is the craft beer aspect...

Yep, my credit card is ready... and yes I am a U.S. citizen FYSA!
