HP doorsteps Apple shoppers at the altar of dreams

Re: Crapware

I suppose it depends on what line you're buying from;

I got a Desktop Workstation from them quite recently and it came with 4 separate Windows install disks (7 and 8.1, both in x86 and x86_64), and the installed windows version was rather light on the Gack. I wonder do the Workstation/Business Laptops come with installation media?

Group rattles tin in bid to snatch TfL licence from Uber's paw

Tsiklon

I use Uber with regularity, as i find £20 from the city centre to the Acton/Ealing area rather more affordable than the £40-60 that a black cab would cost. I'd prefer not to spend the night's drinking money coming home...

Re: Alternative to Islington

I've never been there! I'll give it a nosey later this evening :)

Tsiklon

I literally cannot afford to go out in London during the evening and take a taxi home, doing so would cost more than the drinks i would have embibed. using Uber for the journey from Islington to Ealing during non surge pricing is 20 quid (expensive, but not obscene). a black cab for the same journey would be 60-100. which is absurd.

i do believe that the user must be enticed to install the application, i would hope that if you've gone to the trouble of jailbreaking your device you would be intelligent enough to vet the software you install to the device, using only the default repositories which are known good. but yes people are idiots.

Re: Time to rethink

that would have been a bit of a turn up for the books, i wonder how things would have gone if Apple bought Sun up instead of Oracle. Solaris with Cocoa interoperability? OS X & ZFS? Decent Apple Servers? OS X Sparc, Power and x86? Apple with a large and solid enterprise division would be quite a sight, at a purely academic level i think it would have been properly interesting.

i had to chase the bastards for 18 months(!!!) to give me access to my account online, as there was no other available way for me to check my bill, phoning them up once a month to get told that my information was being held on French servers and they couldn't access it (or some other such rubbish). an entire day of my life (collectively) was wasted on the phone listening to their lies...
