Parachutists told to check software after jumper dangled from a plane

GeneralDisaster

Re: Software for parachute jumps ?

Happened to a flight back from Italy this summer, the plane was damn near empty with most people at tyhe back. The captain asked for some of those people to come forward to balance it all out. 4 people sitting a few meters in front of the turning moment makes all the difference apparently.

Bring your own brain? Why local LLMs are taking off

GeneralDisaster

I've got a powerful machine with latest nvidia and 64gb of RAM, I followed the article here from a few weeks ago and in a very short time had a working LLM. it does halucinate though, I asked it about mining in certain countries and it happily told me about Iron ore mining in a country that has never done such a thing. The rest of the output feels like overconfident sales patter.

Re: Whose agenda?

They very much do force privatisation, I live in Ireland and the introduction of water meters here has been very contentious. The latest missive from the company Irish Water is that if they don't do as ordered by the troika there will be fines and court cases.

My new Ford has this service included, but only if paired with my phone. The car asks after an airbag deployment if the driver is ok, if there is no reply then the emergency services are called.

51 months to get his money back

That's what irks me the most. an honest worker who has been robbed has to wait 51 months to get his money back from this cretin. is he really going to be out earning that for the next 4 years? or be in prison for some other offence before he can repay the victim.

12 years gone from the company, and they still have all his details...

what about the guy in the class action suite, 12 years left the company, but his personal data is still on file. under EU data protection legislation data can only be kept for as long as it is required. Why were they holding his personal information for so long? He should take them to the cleaners, he should have been purged from the systems years ago. How many of us could also be affected by companies that we used to work for? I know my old company never purged this from the HR systems either.

LOL, irish data protection commissioner

I wouldn't hold out much hope of the Irish being able to do much, here is their rather tiny office that is already a source of much mirth here in Ireland. A toothless watchdog in a very small kennel if ever there was one. the remit from central government seems to be don't bite the hand that feeds it (large tech companies), that don't much pay much tax, but hey that's another story.
