Samsung deals out microSD-crushing faster fingernail flash cards

Re: Who's adopting it then?

It's not just the reading/writing. Don't forget the moving. If you've recorded 1 hr of HD, even if it can be moved at 4x speed that's still 15 minutes of sitting on your hands.

A pro cameraperson will lament the passing of sd; those days when you could shoot your footage and transfer it quickly to the client...

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge: Betting on VR with a dash of Vulkan

anttix

I think the best things going for the S7 is that there are no deal breakers. It's all about what isn't missing. That said, it's possible that some will still want a removable battery, but fast charging should alleviate that.

Honor 7?

This is the third Reg article that's mentioned the Honor 7 in glowing terms. Sponsorship? Or you lot just really like the phone? I bought one, didn't like it, then sold it and bought a Nexus 5x instead.

As for data plans, I'm on T Mobile (not EE, so 'only' 3G) PAYG. £20 for 6 months unlimited data...

BBC News website takes New Year's Eve break

Re: Not fixed in my eyes

That would explain it. I'm also a news.bbc.co.uk man.

anttix

Still... odd.

When I go to BBC.co.uk I still sometimes get an error page, then it autorefreshes and comes up.

Apple wants to patent iBeacon stalking

anttix

This does seem like a 'do it on a computer' patent, i.e. Invalid. I'm sure Apple would never attempt to assert it though, and force any potential competitors to waste collossal sums in court to establish this.

Scientists love MacBooks (true) – but what about you?

News: "People buy computers that run the software they need"

I always thought that the sensible way of buying kit was a) work out what you want it to do b), find the software that does it, then c) get a computer that will run said software.

OSX is built on Unix, so seems logical to me if that's what their software is written for. Isn't that why coders buy Macs?

I have much less sympathy/more derision for those who buy a Mac, then try to find software that does what they want.

What? I have to buy Office again?

Yup.

But what about my old gribblewiggl software?

Not available, er why did you buy a Mac?

Because Apple says they're the best computers in the world and they're a really great company who would never lie to us or abuse our ignorance.

Jony Ive: Apple isn't here to make money. And students shouldn't use computers so much

A visionary and original designer.

Some excellent pictures here that showcase Jony Ive's 'original thinking'. The man is clearly a genius and the world would be a poorer place without him.

DOH! Google’s internet of things vision is powered by… Mac OS

I always thought it was about access to the command line, which is pure unix (please correct me if I'm wrong) All the programmers I know use macs - I assume for this reason.
