Microsoft to Linux users: Explain yourself

okcomputer44

Google it! :)

Somehow I just don't feel like that, they are straight with us... :)

Why would we want to share this? This is just like the other brilliant idea with the power shell integrated ssh I guess. Dozen ssh server/client apps available, and then they just decided to help us with this. Nice one!

If I need to reach the M$ box, then I use RDP.

If I need to monitor something/anything, then I will use my Cacti, Nagios, Zabbix whatever I need at that moment.

If you need info what we use, then you should probably research it yourself I guess!

I am willing to share my knowledge with my fellow mates, but I wont share anything with the Company who made my life and work like hell so many times!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, that means you don't manage Microsoft products with real users. Just some fun from their repertoire: Exchange server, AD, service pack management.

Re: Underfloor can be much worse!!!

Tell me about it! :) Having some lovely experience on first floor in Telehouse.

Not to mention the dirt at every inch, if you install anything, then next thing to go to bathroom and get cleaned up otherwise you would look like a pig. ;)

Microsoft to store deleted Exchange Online mails FOREVER

Default policy

Then probably is time to start dealing with the regular Inbox policy crap.

I remember our first migration to O365, and then the user's shouting after the migration, because of the "default" policies applied.

Source: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/158/t/21662.aspx

"There are some default retention policy in Office 365. If the emails are old and hit by the default retention policy, they may disappear automatically."

Be honest can't remember exactly if this was the case, but few users lost their stuff, after the migration.

Could not reach the old exchange server anymore, so it was gone.

So you must read the "12k." pages, before you touch anything on Ms. ;)

Anyhow thank God I don't need to deal with that anymore...

Synology bakes word processor, groupware, into its NAS OS

Shall I say quietly that Synology is not bad?

We got the DS1813+ 2 of them for HA cluster and it behaves very well.

We had a look around on the market which NAS could do HA with iSCSI and has good feedback also and relatively low price range. So we ended up with Synology and must say it's really good.

All other cost more than 1k/node and Syno was less than £800/node, which is quiet cheap.

Anyhow I'm sure QNAP as good as Syno, but the price range is much higher.

Re: BBC Worldwide

OMG that's a good one!

I've got a VPS at Hetzner in Germany and I do ssh into this box very much, then therefore I could work for the SS or Stasi, if we follow their logic! :)

You never know! ;)

Re: The fock?

"People run OSs with very high vulnerability counts and high exploit risks like Linux for Internet facing servers"

Like Linux? Hope you meant like Windows... :)

Code Spaces goes titsup FOREVER after attacker NUKES its Amazon-hosted data

Why only 1 account?

I guess they made a mistake to operate the whole lot within just one account.

The whole design should be made like 1 sysadmin could operate only portion of the cloud not the whole lot.

Imagine if someone had a bad day or just want to make some fun?

Like the guy in Braking Bad whose daughter died because of the drogs and he makes a mistake at the air plane centre and 2 air plane collides and loads of people die.

Also would I trust in anybody and give access for everything?

Hell no way! Clearly they would not think of that this could happen.

Why would you need to operate the whole lot from just one account anyway?
