Two things wear out on Samsung phones in my experience - usb socket or battery.
Wireless charging extends the usb sockets life (esp. Micro usb) to the point that it outlasts the battery.
The phone continuses to be useful until the day that gravity or a thiefing scrote interfers.
The current crop of Sammy mobs are either far too expensive or are expensive with no wireless charging.
A few years ago a couple of friends and I were rattling along the autobhan between Hamburg and Berlin. One of my friends decided to have a little play with is Honda Blackbird.
At somewhere north of 140mph he said that the autobhan was bumpy, narrow and twisty and there still were Volvos and Audi flashing him 'cos they wanted to overtake.....
For the non-bikers a Honda Blackbird is an 1100cc weapon capable of cracking the speed of a licence shredder in horizontal flight. :-)
Yes ... history would strongly suggest that their code would be broken. How long would be the question.
By seeding test messages and looking for a "appropriate respons" (a hint would do) you could gain an insight into your opponents ability to read and understand your messages.
Works in reverse too. Does message match action?

Encryping the canbus data leads to one thing - the vehicle is eventualy not repairable. A wonderful piece of planned obselesance.
I point the reader in the direction of Vauxhaul/opel following the PSA takeover.
How long before the relevant servers become unavailable and the canbus cant be read, decrypted or modified. Several modules on the Astra (for example) cant be serviced/replaced without access to the central server.
Indeed updates for the infotainment/satnav system have allready dried up.
No update is available that shows the new A14 around Huntingdon ( yes, yes read the f@$king roadsigns). What other module have or will develop a bug that needs an update (well the auto lights on function for a start!)
Cars made before about 2005 can be fixed with mechanical and electrical skills.
Todays cars would also need a crypro and software engineer.
S7 getting no patches?
There are very few phones out there that are "better" than the S7. Those that are have less features or cost far too much.
The current affordable Samsung phones (the Axx range) dont have wireless charging for example (saves the usb socket from damage).
The fancy Sxx are far far far too expensive.
Fruity phone prices for a Samsung?.. nope!
Wires do "wear out" in terms of vibration making them brittle or old style insulation failing.
I'm looking at the mains drop wiring into my house ... fitted in the 1960's it's insulated with pitch and hessian. Sparkie said "get it changed" -- ukpower said "Ah -- ok ... but it'll have to wait for a post-Corona" world...... so yes wire does fail eventually. 50 years or so !!

Alas dry (proper) firewood down in this posh part of the Fens costs more than gold.
Due to the new HEATAS regs a replacement for my condemed log fire + installation is quoted at £3000 (flue liner required).
Without acces to "free" dry wood its far too expensive to run, even buying in bulk is not viable. :-(

After a car accident, during which my keys went AWOL, I fitted a keysafe hidden out of sight.
The code is changed to an obvious number if a trusted workman (mate of many years) needs acess then changed back to one my wife and I know. Not been used in a lost key situation yet, but it does mean I can give my next door neibour access in a minor emergency. Anything major ... well the door is'nt that strong!
I too struggled with one of those, bought "'cos it looked nice". Rendered junk by Win10's "Creators Update" -- not enough (non upgradeable) storage to hold an update and a running (!!!) copy of Win 10.
My suggestion of " Just use it for surfing? Try Linux Mint on it" was met with a blank stare ...... they paid up and took it away as it was....
Turned down the opertunity of "repairing" the next one that came along as they too would not consider trying Mint.
Google maps? GPS guidance with senic routeswith no thought about access, narrow roads, impassible lanes.
On a recent holiday in the Isle of Wright, Google tried to send me down narrow lanes 6' 6" max or lanes with grass in the middle, mostly on an indirect route! Why when the relevant A, B or C road was direct and quiet!
I use GPS for quidance ( set to female voice, easy to ignore) - I have a couple of rules for car use... Dont go down a lane with grass in the middle, dont go down narrow (6' 6" limit) lanes and mostly dont use a lane with a hgv ban.
Why? 'cos coming the oposite way will be a t-what in a wide speeding 4x4, a tractor/hgv/bus!!
I stopped using google on the iow - the cars built in system gave better routes.

Quite a few years ago I repaired a kettle for a neighbor - this involved buying and fitting a new element.
They refused to pay for it because it was done as a "favor" --------- humph!
From that day on I started to charge for repairs. The phone calls that started "Can you just,,,, " petered out. The requests from family/friends to do us a favor and fix xxxxxx stopped when I started saying "OK, the part costs £XX and It will cost £XX to do it...........
