UK.gov demands urgent answers as TSB IT meltdown continues

open_paul

They obviously had to move off Lloyds systems which makes sense but oh boy - what went wrong between the testing of this and the live implementation?

Surely you would do a dummy run using your staff that have accounts first or would phase this in over a couple of weeks.

I'm a TSB customer and was locked out yesterday with payments not happening as they should. Not ideal.

Brexit will happen. The EU GDPR will happen. You can't avoid either

GDPR will apply if you have EU customers

The article is good but a little misleading. No matter when (if?) Brexit happens, any UK company that holds data on an EU citizen anywhere will have to comply with GDPR.

For example, if you are an Exporter of widgets and have customers in France or Germany, you will need to ensure that your processes around personal data (whether you're B2B or B2C) abide by GDPR. In this case, if you had a breach, both the French and German regulator could come after you.

This needs to be made super clear to people - Brexit is not an excuse to ignore GDPR.

Mad Frankie Maude hangs up his axe

You failed to mention the importance of the Transparency agenda that Mr Maude has championed (with mixed success). This is a key area of change in global politics and something that should be supported whether it is around making government decisions and spending more open to query or the Open Data agenda which is linked to the crucial National Information Infrastructure (read the latest paper from the Open Data User Group for more: http://data.gov.uk/blog/national-information-infrastructure-nii).

Daily Mail?

The consultation wasn't that quietly done.. The Open Data User Group and other bodies reached out for responses as this consultation is important for opening up the VAT register to help small businesses get better access to lending, create 'trusted' contractor services and so on.

No personal data is going to be shared. If people have concerns, then they should engage with the Open Data User Group, Taxpayers Alliance or other bodies to ensure that the correct due diligence is done.

While the risks around care.data and other programmes are clear, I do feel that some of the Reg articles related to the Open data and public data subjects are a little 'Daily Mail'. Please engage with the Open Data User Group for a balances view.
