Amazon: 'Alexa, how do you fix shoddy APIs that keep breaking apps? Asking, er, for a friend'

Re: "unless they submit their skill to a full manual test run each day"

I actually think this is a fair statement. You put heartbeats and alerts on the external APIs that you use. You probably own an Echo which you use for testing anyway. You may want to consider recording a series of statements and playing them into your test Echo daily and checking that you get the right responses back (or can see in your own system that the requests got to you).

Re: Private company sold != NHS issues

One of the benefits of "being of independent means" is that you have a different take on life and work, like you do stuff because you actually want to do it not because you've got bills to pay.

Hence proposals for the universal basic income.

Re: Has to be

My understanding of the theory is that if people are getting the UBI, they won't be so desperate that they need to do the awful job for shite wages - so Sports Direct's supply would dry up unless they paid better.

Accenture is already based in Ireland

They moved there from Bermuda, when the US Government started squinting at companies there.

Reg probe bombshell: How we HACKED mobile voicemail without a PIN

Chris Wicks 1
Alert

Actually, that Three link isn't very useful...

Decided off the back of the article to set my 3 voicemail to always request PIN.

Turns out they have two things which can be configured separately:

- "Fast login" uses caller ID (presumably the insecure CLI described in the article) to auto-recognise you;

- "PIN skip" gives you the option to request the PIN if you've been auto-recognised.

By default, both of these are on so you go straight through (even when roaming).

I've now turned off PIN skip, so at least I still get auto-recognised - hopefully a balance of security and convenience.
